Small feedback for developers about our 'Silent Guardian'.

I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Can we please have some voice lines back? It's really unnerving as a guardian who has been with you since Beta in Destiny 1, where my guardian called Dinklebot 'Little light'... to suddenly be mute. I can understand the thought process behind wanting to make us feel like it's US playing a guardian that is genuinely ours and not superimposing a voice onto our guardian for us. Truly I do. But I still considered that 'shy to talk but quick to shoot' guardian from Year 1 mine... or me, even. This probably won't trend or even get a reply, but please consider giving us some voice lines back through cinematic scenes. It was very unnerving to watch my guardian silently reach out for Ghost as he fell off Ghaul's ship, and it was frustrating that our Ghost became our voice. Are we not supposed to be legend? I thought we were. You hear legends of Dredgen Yor, of Saint-14, of Osiris, Kabr, Pahanin... not their ghosts. In Destiny 2, as much as I love our Nolan Bot and the emotional ties that have been pulled since he was made our ghost...I miss OUR voicelines. I feel it detracts from the personal legend of our guardian to not only CEASE having a voice, but to have our GHOST do ALL the talking for us. It doesn't matter how many times I played through on Destiny 1. I was always excited to hear those moments where my 'too shy to talk normally, but still more than ready to murder time traveling robots' guardian actually spoke. So please, Bungie, consider giving us back our voice.

I agree with your post. Just last night I was playing and it really annoyed me that Ghost just agreed to do some mission without even some checking in with the guardian. It sure does not seem that the guardians are actually non-paracausal beings if Ghost decides what they do.

  • I ducking hate that I had a real character in vanilla. Even had a good voice actor for human males! Now we are a braindead demon killer being babysat by our ghost. Our voice was too strong so Bungie nerfed it.

Bump. Personally, I don’t need the guardian to feel like he/she is “me.” I’d prefer that they be a developed person rather than an empty shell.

    • Back in some teaser stuff they said we were going to get something along the lines of a dialog wheel. Honestly I was excited about that. But we got a bunch of jabbs about our guardian is silent. In dialog between ghost and the npcs. When a holiday event in Overwatch has more character development. them a full blown game like Destiny 2 there is a problem. It's not like the voice actors just disappeared. They also do voices for Overwatch. An Activision blizzard company. But with how the two big game publishers (EA and Activision) are pushing big titles out and forcing multiplayer and microtransactions into ever aspect in games now. I don't see the ones that own the soul of bungie caring what the players want or what the creators want to make. They want a quick slap dash product. Minimal effort for maximum profits.

      • I know it may not be a huge problem, but I figured during story missions, you and your ghost would talk to each other. It would make a lot more sense, have interesting dialogue, and even have your Gaurdian ask questions the player would be likely to have. Maybe even an option in settings for random, useless chatter just for some extra detail. Silent Gaurdians is just a bad idea, makes no sense, and is super awkward. Especially when you find Cayde in D2 and your Gaurdian just puts his/her hand up like they're about to say something, then nothing. Horrible design.

      • Your missing the point. Guardians are little more than soulless undead killing machines. Created to be un-questioning automatons of death and destruction. They don’t question. They don’t think. They don’t speak. They were created to do what they are told. Die when and where ordered and repeat. Guardians are disposable heroes. Guardians are blunt instruments Guardians are blank eyed puppets Guardians do not need a voice.

        • They're not doing it because it's immensely cheaper for them to just use Nolan North for all our dialogue. Imagine, they'd have to hire at least 2 more voice actors just to cover the male/female races. I would have said at least 6, but they can probably do 2 and just digitally alter the voices depending on race. It's purely to save money.

          • I really hope it was due to the video game voice actors strike, but for some reason I highly doubt it.
