Obviously it's all about personal opinion and what you find fun. In D1, even though I'm a fairly 'casual' player when it comes to intensity, I quite enjoyed taking my time with a team systematically working my way through a nightfall. The timed aspect has really taken the fun out of it for me. Too frantic. Too easy to ruin with a few errors.
I guess it's because I play games for 'fun' more than I do 'challenge' and that's why I don't find the rush aspect fun at all.
Just some feedback. I know players who play for challenge will like it, but timed aspects to games or missions has always felt like 'artificial' difficulty added on if you know what I mean.
***Edit ***
As per a lot of people's great ideas, a tiered system would be great. Either one nightfall where running out of time gives bronze rewards. Within a certain amount of time left gives silver rewards and with a lot of time left, gold rewards.
Other option is 2 nightfalls, regular version with no time for decent rewards and a timed version for top tier rewards.

I think they suck.

One of the fun things in D1 was to solo nightfalls. Put together a good loadout and class for the active modifiers. No longer possible. Basically as a solo player all high level content is now locked.
-
Spent 10 mins in the nightfall. And they totally sucked the fun out of something I used to be excited for every weekly reset. Have fun elite fanboy players!

Timed nightfall sucks

Time Nightfall Sucks!!!
-
I agree. This system forces you to basically skip content and rush through it. You should get time back for every enemy you kill. Like +3 for precision and +1 for regular kills. The rings are stupid. How do they fit into the lore of the game at all? "Hey guardian, jump into the magically vex rings so you have more time to kill the boss or you'll die instantly for no reason."
-
I agree the timer took the fun out of it yes its still able to be done but it isnt fun for me i like casual play not blitzing everything
-
Agreed!! Time limit is stupid, some sort of scoring like D1 prison of elders would have been cool. Think if it is always this hard people will lose interest fast!! Bungie screwed up!
-
Instead of making nightfalls harder, bungie just put a timelimit on them... It's not harder to do, it's just more stressful.
-
Can't stand them

Edited by Artifact: 9/18/2017 8:40:39 PMI agree, In my view the timer made things seem very rushed... this is fine and all but from a gameplay perspective. It shortens actual play time. I imagined the goal of a nightfall is to make a strike take as long as it can, instead of being a few minutes. I prefer taking my time and finding useful loot at the end. Instead of tokens and an engram that did nothing.... Also on a personal note, the visual timer makes my anxiety sky rocket. Knowing there is a timer constantly counting down on screen makes me very uncomfortable. So I won't do the nightfall anymore until it is removed.
-
I agree especially as a solo player.
-
Well Bungie is not about providing enjoyment. They are about providing frustrating challenges that make us want to smash our consoles into little bits.
-
I agree with you. I hate the idea of being timed. I play games to get AWAY from being on the clock not to enhance it. I think it's a terrible idea and should be removed. I like to go through with a few buddies and systematically figure out the phases of the strike. My feedback is that this idea should be thrown in the garbage.

I think the time limit will become less and less of a factor as the guardians become stronger and the Night falls become more familiar. I say give it time, may not matter in a month.
-
Agreed!!! That makes complete sense. I'm not that good and I didn't even come close to the boss. That timer was a bad mandatory design.
-
Hear, Hear! Once I get my Rat King for the first time I don't plan on ever going back to nightfalls unless the timer is removed completely or at the very least rotated in/out of nightfalls every week. Time limits on anything just suck.

Edited by Unbrandedpie: 9/18/2017 7:35:52 PMSo you hate actually having to move out of your cheese spot for once... cool... So much for games being challenging. If it were up to you guys everything would be watered down so braindead monkeys could do it in their sleep... Btw non timed nightfalls are in the game... they are called strikes...
-
would be nice to have both

A timed element in a nightfall just feels like a gear check system, very boring in terms of gameplay. A timer is not a fun added element to a strike, amplified incoming damage from sources be it melee or arc or whatever was more fun because it changed how you did the instance. A timer just makes you do something you've already done faster. It's Okay for like... once a month or so, it can be A modifier, so long as it isn't THE modifier.

I recommend no time. As someone who also enjoys not actually jumping through hoops, having a lower reward for any kind of lesser time smells like bs. It's just bad, and does not incentivize the nightfall at all for people who can't be bothered with an obstacle course for a challenge. Since they are supposed to be on rotation, I'm just hoping we'll get it switched out next week... Right now, its the equivalent to d1 trickle for me. I'm happy for it to stat in if people love it, but yeah... Rotate that rubbish out for me 😋
-
Oh you want more time? Then you can literally jump through hoops to get it! Another great idea Bungie. <slow clap>

First time using the forum, and i dont know if im doing it right. The nightfall right now is a nightmare. First off it says recommended 240 power, here me and my friends are 275 and up and can barely cause damage to enemies. Having to pay attention to the tiny words in the corner to make sure you are using the right energy weapon is impossible. In my opinion it doesnt give you enough time to me if you like it like that. Having to jump through hoops to get time is dumb. Another issue was not enough ammo drops in the nightfall. If you are gonna make it where kenetic is "ineffective" do more ammo drops. But back to my original rant for nightfall. The recommended power and damage you cause is apparently glitched or something. Please bungie i know you read these forums sometimes. Fix everything back to good favor for all players not just the "hardcore playing 24/7" gamers. I play casually cause im a mom and i cant seem to do anything in this game now and im over 280 power.

I'm so far I'm loving the timer. I can pretty regularly complete it with my usual group with several minutes to spare. However, on the other hand the Rings are far superior to kills for time. 2 seconds for each kill is too low. Bump it to 5 and it becomes far more tolerable considering rings are 30 apiece.

When I started playing D2 I thought that everything could be described as two steps forward and one step back. Now I've decided that there were no steps forward or back at all. Everything is a step to one side or another, and Bungle doesn't realize that paths are frequently flanked by ditches. The decisions with things like shaders and getting mods from Eververse show that Bungle is hellbent on driving into the ditch because they actually think the car can drive just fine there. Two thirds of the solutions that they came up with for problems just baffle me. Exotics were too easy to get, so just ditch 3oC and increase the drop rate in high level activities so we reach a happy median, but...I have to shard a half dozen legendaries to buy from xur now? Whaaahhht??? Why get rid of exotic currency and make xur day and infusion goddam Sophie's Choice? I'm sure it won't be an issue further down the road but right now I'm trying to get to know the weapons and collect armor. There are just somany perplexing design choices that it appears they went out of their way to make sure that every "improvement" was balanced by something negative, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the confusion isn't made clear by items that later pop up in Eververse. Don't be surprised if Tess starts offering cosumables that extend nightfall timers or alter raid revive mechanics.

Edited by Tsuzee: 9/17/2017 12:52:30 AMTimed Nightfalls do not convey what a Nightfall is. They were hard and punishing. If they wanted to make a new event based around speed challenges cool but to take away the only end game activity that you could solo or 2 man at your own pace because of timers really ruins things. I used to enjoy slow rolling my way through solo or with my buddy. It wasn't easy but it was rewarding. Edit: Just tried a few runs solo. Not only does the timer suck. These modifiers for extending are just as bad. I needed jump through rings, but they don't stay out long. No way am I going to have enough time to collect them. Be pretty hard with 2 people. I do not like being rushed. It isn't going to make for interesting fights, just frustration. If my friend doesn't want to give it a few goes this week maybe I'll try a guided game.
