Hi there, I ran into this issue. I was able to fix it through trial and error, however i know not exactly what the issue was, but here are the steps I took:
1. Log out of mobile app version (this is the reason for the small red x or mobile icon some players are seeing by their avatars.
2. Restart ps4 (Log in failed)
3. Change online status to offline/online, then restart ps4. (Failed)
4. Change offline status to online, disconnect / reconnect internet via network settings, not by unplugging ethernet (Success, in orbit)

I think the mobile app is what is throwing everything off, so if you havent in this order yet, log off of ps4 completely. Total power off. Then sign out and close/kill ps4 AND the destiny companion app on mobile, then power ps4 back on

Hi there, I am a PS4 player and I've been trying to log into bungie for the last 4 hours and I haven't had any success. What do you mean by step 4? I've tried every possible option but still no success. Help please?

Step 4 was when I changed my online status to offline status, then back to online from your profile on Xbox/ps4 dashboard screen, in after stopping at online status, I found that even though I selected to appear online, it still said I was offline. So I went into my Network Settings on ps4 and went to the Setup New Wi-Fi and just reselected my router and re-signed in to my internet, which then updated my status on ps4 to online, which is when I was able to log back in
