Because, worshipping the Darkness was found to be the most logical choice for their survival, after they encountered the Hive on Oryx's Dreadnaught. We all know that the Vex are obsessed with weaving themselves into the fabric of the universe, and to do so, it is necessary for some of them to...not die. Becoming evil was a necessary action for them to take to achieve their goal.

But within that worshipping wouldn't that be considered forfeiting their own "free will"? Unless you're regarding it as a means to an end in the sense of worshipping to gain knowledge into the Hive hierarchy for their own benefit of survival instead of becoming slaves for the Hive

No, they may serve the Darkness, but they can still do what they want, based on the knowledge that they gain from their simulations and what-not. If you are involved in religion, that doesn't mean that you always follow the rules of said religions. E.g. The Vex didn't attack us when the taken spread into the Vault of Glass. They prioritize their continued existence over their worship of the Darkness. Their continued existence is also why they worship it in the first place. Unless you're regarding it as a means to an end in the sense of worshipping to gain knowledge into the Hive hierarchy for their own benefit of survival instead of becoming slaves for the Hive They don't even do it to learn about the Hive, they do it because they saw the Hive doing it, they saw that it was effective, and they saw that they must do it if they were to survive against the Hive.[/quote] Not to bring religion into this, but think about it this way. Many would say that the God of Judaism and the God of Islam are one and the same (not saying that I agree, just bear with me here). Yet, assuming that they do worship the same god, they most certainly don't peacefully coexist, and neither is a slave to the other. They worship for almost the same reason: Eternal plenty and happiness. But their methods and views differ radically.

Ah yes, alright I see where you're coming from now. That does make more of a logical sense in the terms of worshipping while keeping their own objective. I naturally assume, against my better judgement, that the Vex put themselves into anything and everything that is equal or greater than them in any way for both to understand and surpass by...manipulating if you will. It's a bit of a stretch and I clearly don't know enough to propose a solid argument but just from my own base observations. I haven't really jumped much into the Grimoire so I could only imagine I'm missing a lot of information

It's not necessarily that they dabble in anything stronger than them, its just that, well, let's start with the basics. Even the simplest vex unit can run thousands, even millions of simulations of possible scenarios at any given moment. The Vex use this to find, and follow, the best path to ensure the continuation of their collective species. They do this when presented with any set of circumstances, so if they believe that taking a particular action will help them survive in the long run, they will create or adapt 'minds' (although the Vex have one collective mind, or a 'hive' mind) to deal with this particular new set of directives, if they are especially exotic or radical to the majority of Vex subdivisions. When the Vex saw how the the Hive worshipped the Darkness, this is exactly what they did. They created Quria, Blade Transform, to carry out this new directive. However, Quria soon finds that it is incapable of predicting Oryx, so it simulates his younger self, Aurash, to learn from him and find out why it cannot simulate him. Quria is taken by Oryx, but the rest of the Vex network takes heed at what Quria has discovered, and the worship spreads throughout the entire network (presumably). This is the one major weakness of a Hive mind, and also it's greatest strength. And thus, the Vex allow it to spread. Hope that added up to a little more than incoherent rambling, but hey, I guess that's all that the grimoire is anyways :/
