I liked Y1 and I think your assessment of the appeal is correct. I think the hate Rise of Iron receives is a mixture of valid and absurd. It was much shorter than the Taken King and had a lot of potential that seemed to wrap up far too quickly compared to the threat as it was presented.
The real issue with ROI is the players fault but not a fault they could control. With the start of the 3rd year players from Y1 know how to play this game, could probably play this game in our sleep (or with rock band instruments as a great example) that no matter what the new content is it never really feels fresh.
This is why I've changed and hope D2 is a restart and a clean wipe, not because I hate my stuff or my memories, but simply the new game needs to feel fresh or the senior players are just going to walk away for new more interesting and fresh engaging games and that doesn't bode well for Bungie's franchise or company.

Edited by Devasstator: 1/14/2017 6:06:07 PMThis is me right here. Year 1 lasted the whole year, found a clan and such. Year 2 lasted 4-6 weeks for most of us and we were bored. A few came back in April, but it was short lived because we never liked PoE to begin with. ROI most of us were bored by week 3 and everyone is gone now (I had 3 people on my list playing last night). Some of us are into VR now, lots are over on Overwatch, Titanfall or Battlefield and oddly enough every single one of them is not hyped for Destiny 2 right now because they think it will be more of the same and that's really, really boring.
