This is gonna seem like a bit of a rant but I'll put a tl:dr further down, I just wanted to post my current thoughts and hear people's opinions on what I think.
I've used a hunter almost exclusively for 2 years solid near enough, whilst they do have their perks, which class doesn't? I'll tell you a few things for a sheer fact though, shadestep is good when used correctly yes, sometimes damn right annoying and cheesy. QuickDraw is great on blade, (double Skips was a stupid idea) and golden gun is basically up there with the most skillful to use aggressively and well simultaneously at this moment imo.
However, jugg shotty, having become the meta with slightly varying primaries, when they are even used (LOL) is currently what is making pvp boring imo. Yeah they can be countered, so can anything, but this is about generally annoying subclass traits and load out. I'd rather be repeatedly shoulder charged personally. Bubble takes a fair amount of skill, though with the current meta, the no back up plans regenerating oversheild kind of makes that argument redundant to some extent.
The greatest thing for locks is their melee, the last month I've used a void lock with the QuickDraw gloves (basically a blade dancer with better neutral abilities and super) and trust me, it's far more forgiving running a vampire build with a melee that grants you health for free, grenades that regen your health for free etc etc than just having QuickDraw on blade and still short stopping whilst stood in front of some dude holding out his shotgun ready to twitch his fingers.
Shadestep avoiding grenade damage is still kind of silly in my opinion but that's just me maybe, if the argument is anything to do with stepping out of space and time, why doesn't blink grant you the same comfort?
Sorry for the wall of text, I'll try to summarise below.(probably fail)
Storm melee is stupid. Sorry but every man and his dog agrees that giving the class with the easiest melee to use for kills, the ability to do it from a greater range was surely a stupid idea from the get go.
Shadestep causing grenades to disengage is a little dumb.
Titans speed/armour combination is a little dumb. (I know I'm not alone in saying this, and hey, I enjoy using Titan but it still seems somewhat imbalanced)
Whoever decided that giving a grasp archetype pulse high calibre rounds needs to have their head examined lol. If im wrong, then other primaries need improving in general not just to compete with this one gun, but to generally encourage more gunfights throughout.
Fusion nade stickiness is stupid.
None of this is salty btw, I've done it all, maybe some more than others. Weapon wise though I refuse to use mida (Mida has and always will be my most hated gun in the game, the sound is just so f'ing annoying to me, almost childish lol)
More on gun balancing.
A recent video by sirD detailed why exotics don't seem to compare to their legendary counterparts, and whilst he seemed to put on a great display with it, the Hawkmoon is one gun they need to change for example. Not because of the exotic perk even, that is neither here nor there for me, it's the look, the feel(old feel) and sound of the gun that made it exotic, the fact that they made it more or less a pointless gun having obtained a better eyas Luna, (basically any with rifled barrel) is part of the reason only certain guns are ever used in this game. (Luna/tlw/mida/palindrome/grasp/dragon/cryptic) usually if you load up in a trials match and see 3 guys using Monte Carlo , some slow rate of fire pulse and an exotic hand cannon other than tlw, you know it's gonna be a pretty easy battle to win or at minimum counter.
And yes, I know, there will always be a meta. But, theres a degree to which the meta can divert from the rest of the weapons available and by how much it reduces the skill gap based on the luck with which you got your God roll guns. RNG should not be the deciding factor on who wins a gunfight when both have the same gun but one got luckier with his/her drop. Another reason exotics should be made more relevant again too.
The gap that is left when the meta is decided seemingly becomes greater with every weapon patch, and I know I'm not alone in thinking that it's due to attempting multiple changes all at once to various weapons, various archetypes at once of a specific type of weapon, whilst also somehow leaving very obvious weapons as is when they too seem to need or require attention.
Tl:dr it's not hunters abilities as this guy suggested that is the main problem for this game. It's the bombardment of weapon updates and changes that don't seem to make sense when they leave so many weapons consistently unusable compared to others, specifically exotics. It's the subclass perks that accentuate parts of classes that are already known for being strong and making them stronger (storm melee).
I love this game for the variety, for the friends I've made etc etc etc and I get that it must be incredibly difficult to balance something with so many variables and consequences to such changes time after time. But when some things are being repeatedly banged on about for such a long time, then you get random updates informing you of emotes and sterling treasures that give no weight to the actual enjoyment of shooting the crap out of each other, it kind of leaves you wondering "why did I bother writing all of this?" Lol
Hope someone enjoyed that, I'm bored at work :P
