Suggestion to improve the acquisition of skeleton keys

Many people are complaining of the very low chance of getting a key at the end of the strikes. I don't know if they drop less frequently than the legendary loot dropped before the introduction of this system of loot chest (which is nice btw). My feeling is that they have the same probability to drop as the legendary loot had before. Only Bungie could tell us the real numbers. However, when you had nothing popping on your screen before (-> bad luck), now you have a bloody chest that you can't open (-> frustration!). Whatever is the chance of drop, it's still totally RNG, meaning that you can theoretically drop 3 keys in a row, or not a single one in 20 strikes. My idea is to introduce a "gate" system. Let's say the set chance of drop is 20%. You have this overall 20% chance of dropping a key during a strike, but if after 4 strikes you haven't got a key, you have a guaranteed key at the end of the 5th strike, and the count reset each time you get a key. They don't need to be played as a streak. This would make 20% chance guaranteed, thus negating the risk of playing 10 strikes without getting a single key. Of course Bungie can decide to place the gate at whatever number of strikes they think is the best for a good balance between grind and frustration. What do you think about that, Cozmo and fellow players? [u][b]Edit 14 dec 2016: [/b][/u]ok so according to the patch notes the drop rate of the skeleton keys has been "slightly" increased. No idea if we'll see any difference, and it's still based on pure RNG, so I hope you guys are lucky. In addition the first NF completion rewards a key. I've always found this idea pretty stupid. Here is my point: - Those that benefit the most from the strike loot chests are not the 400 LL warriors, but those guardians that are still grinding their way up to the highest light. - Since RoI the NF is a real challenge. Depending on the strike and the modifiers it can be sometimes horribly difficult. Then, those that would benefit the most from a key are those that have the least chance to get one from the NF. Well, let's see how things have changed and if the community is happy with those changes, and let's talk about that in a couple of weeks.

  • What if the keys weren't a drop. What if there were "strike" bounties you could complete that rewarded you with a special type of strike currency as well as typical faction and vanguard rep. So you pick up the bounties, complete strikes, and when you have enough of the strike currency you can buy a key. Each bounty has different requirements and stuff, just like vanguard and crucible bounties. For example, let's just name the currency something generic like "coins". So, a key costs 100 strike coins. You get 5 bounties to pick up, for stuff like, kill certain enemy types, or kill a certain amount of enemies, kill a certain boss, etc...tons of possibilities. Then, each bounty rewards u some coins depending on difficulty. Maybe 10 coins for a basic bounty, and 20 for a boss bounty. Something of that regard. Also, the bounties can continually be picked up over and over after completing them, but each week the bounties change to different objectives. I think this would be better, more fun and less frustrating than relying on RNG. Thoughts?

      • IMO, Skeleton Keys should use a similar system as SIVA Cache Keys. You get fragments, coins, or whatever after each strike completion. After compiling 10, you get a key. The Nightfall will drop 5 every time it's completed. The other 2 playlists would drop 3 and 2 respectively.

          • This wouldn't be a bad idea, but another suggestion would be to mimic the three of coins effect. If the base is 20%, then each strike you go through without getting a key would increase the chance of a drop by a few points, then reset when it does happen. Wouldn't be a guaranteed drop every 5th strike, but it would improve the odds.

            • Keys give basically a 100% to light level 400, haveing a guaranteed drop would break the game. If drops from the chest did not go up to 400 I would be fine with it.

              • Different color ones, green purple exotic etc... basicaly loads of greens, a few purples and rarely a orange would drop, also color representing LL, green 350, purple to match yours, orange max.. surprised way system is atm, have 6 that i won't use until i either get higher light or more keys.. used about 4 already and theres nothing i need, would like a good loop but last one i got was pure trash.. don't use my grasps anymore, got 4 ok/good ones but not touched them since before roi.

              • They need to drop at the same rate as original strike exclusive stuff atleast. If not, guarantee them from faction boxes

              • Personally I say add Skeleton Keys to the Three of Coins. They already give players a chance at an exotic. Update them so that popping one increases the chance of getting a Skeleton Key.

              • I used 5 keys on Omnigul and got two grasps. One was a decent roll, and the other was garbage. I then got three omnigul bonds in a row.

                    • Not bad, guaranteed keys would be nice, but 10% and 10 strikes would be better. I can do 5 heroics in less than an hour and a half

                      • Great idea! I would probably increase the number of strikes for a guaranteed drop. Running the 320 light strikes with a good team (even with randoms), 5 strikes can be done in half hour average, depending on the strike you get. So each hour you'd be getting a guaranteed 2 skeleton keys seems too much to me. Trust me, I wish I had more as it seems RNG doesn't like me right now, but one of my characters is already 391 light and I've never done any raid. Leveling up is a grind, but with the keys dropping that often it would make it hard to stay hooked until Destiny 2. Just my opinion of course! I would go with a 15% chance at the end of a strike, and after 7 total strikes without a key, the next one would give you one. Or something increased a little more. Thoughts?

                        • Do these keys even exist in game??? I have had 2 since ROI dropped. I have 3 characters at 388+ light, have beaten the raids....run strikes the story missions. I have 2.

                          • I didn't feel like reading your post, but I think they should just have a bounty that requires 5 strikes and a certain amount of strike kills. You can renew if my after completing it to do it allowed again

                            • Maybe they should have made three of coins work for something like the chests? Hard to patch things into place after the fact without changing too much mechanics. Something feels lacking though

                              I like the thought process here, but this will lead to even more afk players during strikes. Especially if it's guaranteed after only 5 strikes. Maybe the key should drop only (or have an even higher chance) to players who have more than 30% of the kills on a fireteam with the 20% system you speak of. That way everyone is encouraged to play and if you're on a fireteam with your buddies, you could always let your team mates get the kills if they need it. ---------------------------------------------------- Now if it were me, it would probably be easier for Bungie to incorporate something into the "Vanguard Streak" booster that gives you more reputation for consistently staying in the Strike Playlists. They could add another tier of streaks like Three of Coins: "For every key you don't get in a strike, you have a higher chance to get another one after Vanguard Streak is activated. Once a single key has been received, your chances start over". Something to think about.

                            • I definitely dont think they should drop every strike, but last night after 6 strikes in a row, not getting a single to drop made me stop playing. RNG is RNG, but there should definitely be some hidden mechanic that makes sure you dont go x amount of strikes without a drop.

                            • Thanks have good luck with it since the HM WOTM came out I got 2 in a row and I only played 3 heroic strikes in a row.
