Theory on Xur and the Nine

Very long post, please give feedback. We know that Xur is the guy that gives us all the good weapons and kush. However, many of us wonder who he really is, and what is behind that mask. One of my theories is on the Nine. As we know, there are 9 planets in the solar system, including Pluto. My opinion is that the Nine, the group Xur is an agent for, are a group of people, one from each planet in the solar system. While there is no relevant mention of the Jovian Planets and Pluto in Destiny, except for Grimoire, it is known that Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, and even Pluto were colonized to an extent. These nine people may have governed interplanetary relations, like leaders of different nations. After the Collapse, these people may have hidden away and shut themselves up by controlling the Jovian worlds (mentioned in Destinypedia) from the remaining shards of humanity that still existed. Eventually, they must have made themselves known to certain people who became agents for them to sell relics like the weapons and materials Xur sells, and spread cryptic news of the Nine and the Golden Age. This brings me to Xur. Xur used to be a normal Guardian, probably human. I believe that he was sent out to one of the Jovian worlds, most likely Europa, which is a moon of Jupiter that humans colonized. What probably happened then is that there was some sort of unbelievably powerful concentration of Darkness between him and Jupiter, most likely somewhere in the asteroid belt. Unlike the Awoken, who emerged unscathed and enlightened, Xur must have been horribly scarred and injured. He probably turned back and headed to the City, and when the Vanguard found out about this, they were so terrified they banished him from the Tower. He may have lurked the streets of the City for some time, and maybe the wilderness, but eventually the Vanguard may have admitted him into the Tower again because of his valued weapons and knowledge. Since then, no one has gone out to the Jovian planets. And that is the story of who we get our weapons, armor, and good kush from. Thank you.
I'm the saddest Guardian alive.
• Possibly but I don't think the nine are humans. Xur is or was Jovian, and is somehow controlled by the Nine, his will is not his own, he is merely a trash collector for the nine, and what does he collect? Strange coins. It's implied through much of his dialogue that these coins have no value to the nine, they simply collect them. There is another species that likes to collect mountains of treasure that has no actual value to them, and that would be dragons, which in Destiny lore are called Ahamkara which we know have the ability to influence the will of others, even when they are dead and only their bones remain. So my theory is the nine are the surviving nine Ahamkara. Of course like your theory it is only that, time will tell if either of us is right, or both of us could be way off.

        • Xur himself says "some of the cells in this body originated from this planet". He also makes other references to his origin which suggest he's not at all human. I'm not entirely certain he's wearing a mask.

        • Pluto isn't a planet, though. It's a dwarf planet. The title "The Nine" most likely doesn't reference the planets of our solar system. (I'm at work at the moment, so that's as far as I got for now. I'm very interested in reading the rest of this post later.)

          • I looked this up in year one so I forget the names and specifics, but I remember that in a certain pantheon of gods, there is a god of the undead with black skin who travels the realm of the undead with his backpack to sell his wares. That sounds pretty dead on to me.

          • Personally, I think that the 9 are some form of Jovian Leviathans, based on a few of Xur's comments, including one that says they're "large". I'm thinking that, if nothing else, they align with the Tower's goals, and send Xur to provide us with powerful arms and armor to further our quest. It may be simple self-interest, knowing that if the Dark wins, they're in danger as well. As to their sending an agent to spring Skolas, that was beneficial to the Light by pushing the Reef into our corner.

          • The real question is; What are they doing with all those strange coins!? Are we funding terrorists? Can we be space pirates and just go steal the booty for ourselves?

          • Xur himself pretty much says he is an amalgamation of dead cells from various worlds.

          • If they were rulers, it would explain why Xur sells such valuable items.
