The north didn't really care about slavery, they just used it to bolster their side and weaken the south. The civil war was fought mainly over states rights vs federal government.

Edited by Ravn_21: 3/26/2016 1:04:55 PMYou're not right, but not completely wrong either. It is why a lot of the south seceded but not why the north fought to keep the country whole. http://m.livescience.com/13673-civil-war-anniversary-myths.html http://www.history.com/news/5-things-you-may-not-know-about-lincoln-slavery-and-emancipation

My conception is that the South saw a long and protracted fight to end slavery. They saw they were losing the fight. Lincoln's election scared them. They seceded to protect their peculiar institution. They couldn't win in Congress, so they left. And to the ignorant masses, the three fifths compromise is the reason they couldn't win in Congress. Shockingly, considering popular culture, the 3/5 compromise was an abolitionist idea.

Edited by cxkxr: 3/26/2016 6:08:53 AMLol, go learn the actual history buddy. The north won, so it should be no surprise that their contrived narrative is the one that has prevailed. Most of it propaganda, of course, to justify a tyrannical union.

Can you just name me one additional "states rights" issue that would have caused secession and war?
