If you traveled back in time to 1861 and had to fight in the civil war, which side would you take?
North:
-Federal Sovereignty
-Pro Big Government
-Anti-State's Rights
-Anti-Slavery
-High Tariffs on Foreign Goods.
South:
-Popular Sovereignty.
-State's Rights.
-Small Government
-Pro-Slavery
-Little to no Tariffs on Foreign Goods.
I'd personally fight for the Confederacy, and I'm black. I think that the other issues outweigh slavery, and that slavery would eventually die out on its own as each generation tends to be more accepting than the last. Other than slavery, it seems to me that the South got everything right.

But you also have to consider the North was advancing in industry/ideas much faster than the South Additionally, I could've sworn the North lowered the Tariff so as to promote trade. And if they didn't, the Tariff helped Americans work on their own industries more. Added on top of being against slavery, I'm fully for the North.

Union. You have a point, but slavery isn't something I could fight for
-
Your ancestors would hate you.
-
North had much more industry, a greater population, money, railroads, and telegrams. These all greatly contributed to the down fall of the confederacy so yeah... I would definetly go with the Union

25 RepliesAnyone who says confederacy hates America. Anyone who flies the Confederate battle flag is a traitor to America. They are glorifying those who fought and killed to get away from America because they hated the idea of equality and freedom. You are entitled to your free speech, and you can put up, burn, step on, or otherwise deface any flag. You can shout that if you could you would have killed American troops. But understand that you are no patriot.

5 RepliesMy family has always been from the south and my great great great great grandfather fought for the confederacy. So yeah...
and no, I'm not some racist redneck you ignorant fuсks.
-
The North won, so...
-
1 ReplyNorth didn't give a shot about slaves common misconception
-
3 RepliesSo this dude is black and would have fought for the confederacy. Mkay.
-
5 RepliesEdited by Ktulu: 3/24/2016 12:33:09 AMConfederacy for sure. This country would be so much better if the confederacy won.
-
2 RepliesUntil you realize that the only way in which the confederacy supported states rights was in the debate over slavery in their favor: they didn't care if the Fugitive Slave Act was harming the rights of the northern states.
-
Edited by Woupsea: 3/26/2016 3:26:25 PMThe low taxes on foreign goods was one of the confederacy's major downfalls, also the union was not against state's rights. :/
-
2 RepliesThe confeds weren't technically pro slavery, yes, they had it, but it had almost died out, until the cotton gin was created
-
2 RepliesWow, so now majority of offtopic is not only racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic and incredibly ignorant but also comprised of confederates.
-
Well, I'm from Ohio so I'd be a Yankee. I'm not about to willingly join the losing side.
-
I'd personally fight for the Confederacy, and I'm black.
0_0 wut

-

Edited by R0meo4125: 3/26/2016 7:35:30 AMChange the government to North: Central government(constitution) South: State government(articles of Confederation) Would make it clearer to those who don't know ~Thegreatskechers

3 RepliesSlavery would have inevitably died out by the 1900s due to pressure from other countries. But that's still almost 40-50 years of more suffering.
-
Edited by LowIQPlayz3445: 3/26/2016 7:10:38 AMThe confederacy, aside from having a cooler name, has nothing going for it. They were all traitors and deserved to lose that war.
-
8 RepliesRight, so disregard you would have been a slave yourself and would not of enjoyed anything you listed for the confederates. Sound logic.
-
5 RepliesFun fact: that was never actually a Confederate national flag. Maybe get a historically accurate photo next time?
-
Confederacy. Not for any ethical reason, just to see what would happen.
-
5 RepliesThe north didn't really care about slavery, they just used it to bolster their side and weaken the south. The civil war was fought mainly over states rights vs federal government.
