It is based upon ELO, but having not played PvP since last IB, does it take into account your total skill or just from past few matches?
I ask simply because there are the odd games where I can run a 2.0+ kd on a regular basis, I know my overall kd sucks, but as a yr 1 player I helped alot of players through the exotic PvP bounties like Thorn. So would I be judged in SBMM on recent games?

It goes on to Total skill. A friend of mine was mostly a Control player, has a 2.0 overall KD. Got back a week or 2 ago, lagged really hard. Was playing with guys thousands of miles away (checked their PSN accounts). Sadly, if your KD is above 1.4, which according to previous info from Bungie, it's an above average player, you will not find matches without lag. Rarely you will find a couple without it, and God forbid it you mercy rule them or win by a large margin, because you will be connected with new guys, and they will lag so hard, but so hard, that you will want to kill yourself. I myself have a 1.77 overall KD, it's high, but lately, I'm still doing a 2.0+ monthly, but lag is killing me every time. Worst of all, real sweat playlists like ToO lag hard. This is from the last ever match I will play in ToO until they fix the lag issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ac3PdZb_SA If you count the time, it's more or less over 400ms. And that was for the 8th win (I dropped the ball and forgot to apply the boons actually). So yeah, SBMM hurts everybody.

Total skill i would say. And matchmaking runs off your ELO or a similar formula
