From what I've learned, based on my own experience + advice better players have taught me:
1. Sure you can play around with different set-ups, but choose a set-up that you're most comfortable with. Like people have said below, don't just follow the meta because it's...well, the meta. I've found myself doing the most consistently when I run with pulse rifle + sniper, whether or not it was the current set-up that everyone else was using, because I just found it the most comfortable to play with. This goes with sensitivity too. If you're trying to use a sniper more often now, and you still find yourself struggling to land consistent snipes, I would lower your aim sensitivity. You sacrifice things like easier maneuverability, but that's something that you can adapt to over time. Kjhovey (check him out if you haven't heard of him; Youtube + Twitch) is an excellent sniper, and he runs on a 3 sensitivity. I'd suggest watching some of his videos if you wanna improve your sniping, he's genuine and gives pretty good tips.
2. If you can help it, play with a consistent team, especially in 3v3 gamemodes (Trials & Skirmish). You'll find yourself doing better no doubt when the chemistry's there; communication and good teamwork comes with it. I'm not the greatest PvP player, but I always do Trials with my clanmates, and we always work together and do well.
3. Adapting to an enemy's playstyle is key. Especially when you find yourself losing matches? Think about what you're doing, and how it's affecting your gameplay. Are you rushing the same area? Are you doing something that the other team'll suspect you to do? Learning from your mistakes goes a long way in how you play, and will only continue to make you into a stronger player. Record your games, if you have the time. Exceptional games and not-so-exceptional games. And learn from them. Same way an athlete watches themselves the day after a match or something.
But most importantly, have fun and try not to stress out. It's just a game. You only do worse when all you're thinking about is how "bad' you're playing, or raging over the smallest things. You can burn yourself out that way.
Hope this somewhat helps.
