Edited by OuO_Whats_This: 10/6/2015 11:23:04 AMHow can it be a LIGHT and MASSIVELY multiplayer online game at the same time...?
-
There's no such thing... Lmao It's either massive, or its not. That's the only thing that makes a MMO. Otherwise, it's just an online multiplayer game.
-
There are certain conventions you expect inside of a MMO beyond the player scale. Destiny has quite a few of those hence it's a light MMO. I don't particularly care what you think of that concept.
-
Edited by Yajuu Omoi: 10/6/2015 9:30:26 AMYou are fundamentally wrong of your concept. "Raids" "character development" etc etc I keep seeing people post saying those things are MMO elements... The problem with that I'd those are actually RPG elements. The only thing that can make a game a MMO is being a massive multiplayer online only game. Nothing else about the game matters. It could be a racing game as far as anyone cares, but if it's online only, with a massive constant multiplayer lobby, it's a MMO. Destiny MAXES out at 16 in social areas, and 12 everywhere else. The Crew was SUPPOSED to be the first MMO driving game... But they could not live up to the hype and settled with a large scale social driving game.
-
The game itself is massive. You say all those elements are RPG elements but by having them all it could be considered massive. It'd be the same concept of if a game was just 1 area but you could fit 1,000 people in that one area, regardless of how crowded it actually was, would it still be massive? I mean it's one area.
-
If the MULTIPLAYER is massive. Yes. The content of the game does not matter. At all.
-
I would agree that character development, leveling up etc are traits typically associated with the RPG genre. However when I think MMO vs online multiplayer, whilst scale is a major factor, I also expect to see instances of players crossing paths on their ways to separate objectives, the ability to team up in an open world despite not having any prior affiliation and public events. Destiny borrows traits from MMO's too which aren't just about the player scale. I don't claim that Destiny is a pure MMO but it's not without aspects of it.
-
Edited by Yajuu Omoi: 10/6/2015 9:47:10 AMYou are still not understanding what a MMO IS in the first place. You literally just described an open world game, then called it a MMO. If you gave Borderlands an open world, you'd probably call is a MMO. But we all know, it is not. The ONLY thing that makes a MMO, a MMO... Is being a massive online multiplayer. Nothing else matters. Literally. If the crew could've supported more than 16 players in the lobby at once, it would be a MMO. Instead, it's a open world, social driving game. People enter and leave the lobby at will, with no need for prior interactions with other players. And can initiate solo races or open/joinable ones without leaving said lobby.
-
I am perfectly understanding what a MMO is. I play them frequently. When you play a MMO, yes you expect 100s of players but you also expect many other aspects in there too. You expect to be able to buy cosmetic items, you expect to be able to buy pets or emotes and the like. These conventions are in every MMO I've played. So rather than carry on this asinine discussion come up with a term that describes Destiny as it is possibly the first of its kind. It's a hybrid that takes much of what made Borderlands successful and adds new elements to it. It's more than an open world game, it's more than an online multiplayer, it's more than a FPS, it's more than a RPG.
-
Wrong. Again. NONE of that makes a game into a MMO. You are showing a basic lack of concept of the English language. Massive Multiplayer Online That's it, nothing more. Pets, quests, social areas, customization, etc, are RPG elements.
-
Hmm...Vindictus is an MMO and has about a 16 player limit in "lobbies" and then instances out its missions.
-
I have no idea what game you are talking about. But if it maxes out at 16, it is not a MMO.
-
Perhaps you should make sure you understand an MMO then.

Edited by Yajuu Omoi: 10/6/2015 10:29:57 AMMassive Multiplayer Online That's the only thing that makes a game a MMO.
Also, its "a MMO" not "an MMO"
What's the exact wording on the wiki page you're pulling from? Massive Multiplayer Online, does not mean interaction with every player online at the same time. Several use channels, with instanced lobbies, that have a set number of players per each channel. Like Vindictus, Tera, SWTOR. All of these games use channels, to limit server load. They are still classified as MMORPGs, despite the amount of players loaded within each lobby. Most games nowadays are MMO-something. They may not be called that, but seeing as they have a MASSIVE player base online at any one moment, that you have access to, they are Massive Multiplayer Online Games.

Wikipage? Lolololololololololololno Can't even take you seriously anymore.

You are lacking human decancy which is far more important than comprehension of any language. Later loser.
-
Decency? I've been trying to explain something to you for hours and you refuse to read. I have yet to insult you or belittle you in any way. You may want to look on the mirror.
