Listen people, let's stop being angry and be logical instead. For starters, you can't quote something from the release of Dark Below and insist that it must be continually viable. That's just you attempting to twist Deej's words to suit your purposes. He was speaking of the Dark Below expansion only. Leave that argument out.
Secondly, you haven't been locked out of any of the content that you initially purchased. Your story missions are still there. Your Year 1 strikes are still there in the Vanguard Legacy playlist. Your PvP maps are still there in the vanilla playlists. Your raids and PoE are still there. Seems to me like you're still able to access the things you paid for.
The reason that you aren't able to access those other playlists, vendors, Nightfalls, etc I'd because those things are going to result in you getting new gear that you didn't pay for. That gear would be there to prep you for the new endgame activities that you also didn't pay for. Why should you have access to endgame gear if you haven't purchased the endgame content?
Is Bungie attempting to force you to buy the expansion in order to continue on in Destiny? Yes, they most certainly are. Is Bungie well within their rights to do that as a company with the goal of making a profit? Yes, they most certainly are, and they'd be bad businessmen if they weren't doing so.
Simply put, it's unfair for you to expect to continue to use Bungie servers for free and get new content for free. Sorry if that's offensive to you, but it's the reality you're failing or straight refusing to consider.

Edited by DeimerX: 9/19/2015 4:24:15 PMThey are indeed blocking content, was the heroic modifier in story mission necessary? Was the removal of faction old gear necessary? They could keep both. Couldn't they just remove the hardest difficulty in weekly heroic and add TTK difficulty? Weakly heroic has only one difficulty now. Couldn't they add another new strike? Where is salvage? I paid for salvage with TDB. Listen, I got TTK, so far I'm very happy with it. But you can't just ignore the fact that bungie is screwing loyal players, your fellow gamers. Destiny is an awesome game, bungie's marketing is disgusting, and of course your point is valid bungie left enough content for people like you to say that. A lvl 20 vanguard strike? That's just there to annoy people and make them buy TTK or get bored. I get your point though and I know bungie is obviously on legal basis. But it's wrong on many ways, you accept this and more abuses like this will happen in the future, just remember old gaming wasn't this much about paying. True gaming isn't like this and bungie should appreciate more the players. You should too, think about it.

I have thought about it and I do agree that some people feel like they're being screwed out of content. That said, I think there's a huge amount of naivety regarding the economics of the gaming industry. Bungie, and especially Activision, are companies that need to make profits. Not to mention that the standards for and complexity of video games are increasing exponentially, so are production costs. If we want to continue experiencing the awesomeness that is Destiny, we have to accept that it's going to cost money. It's an ugly truth and Activision is one step away from officially being Satan incarnate, but it's the reality of the situation.

Wow. Just wow. The smug is thick here
-
No smugness, just plain honesty
-
Glad you said it so I don't have to
-
Is bungie only paying you minimum wage to write this shit? Considering how cheap they are I dont doubt it
-
Lol yes, because my opinion differs from yours I must be getting paid by Bungie. Typical way to discount my point without having to consider it. No, Bungie isn't paying me anything. Nice to know you can't legitimately refute my argument though.
-
How much cash u get from bungie
-
Lol so because I have an opinion that's different from yours, that must mean Bungie is paying me? Wow. No, Bungie isn't paying me anything for being logical.
-
Actually I opened the game on Wednesday just for S&Gs opened the Earth map and saw both Earth strikes are now locked out, same with every planet. So all the strikes I paid for through release and 2 expansions they took away.
-
The lower difficulty is still available to you, stop trying to troll.
-
I'm not trolling, they're locked. I've got no reason to lie to you, I don't know you, whether you believe me or not doesn't unlock those strikes.

Edited by Comptonburger: 9/19/2015 9:43:18 AMHe may have been speaking about the Dark Below expansion, but it was true for both Dark Below and House of Wolves. They set expectations that the content would continue to be available and have completely flip-flopped on the idea that we would not be "left behind". Not unlike how they flip-flopped on letting us upgrade our weapons and armor. You're not doing anybody justice by choosing and picking what content to claim we still have available. PVP modes are content just the same as PVP maps are. Likewise with Strike playlists. You don't even choose to mention the bounties, ToO, or IB. As for the rewards - irrelevant. What I want is to be able to play the same content I used to be able to for the same rewards I used to be able to. Given that strike playlists already come in different levels with different rewards this is obviously possible. I am not expecting to get new content for free. However, they chose to give us access to the higher level cap, vendor gear, and many rewards regardless with The Dark Below and House of Wolves. That's what makes this change so brutal - it is the complete opposite direction, locking us out of content we did pay for. And with regards to the servers - other games are a one time purchase and often operate servers for years. It's not as expensive as you pretend. And if it was, then they should charge a subscription - but barring that, they cannot just take the game back.

Spot on...again ...but the apologists can't see how screwed up this whole thing is cause Bungie is balls deep in them. It's true, he does't make any real solid points, just lots of words. No need to give too much credence to that...

At the same time, Bungie has been clear from the beginning that Year 2 represents a major change in scope and structure for Destiny. Expecting things to stay the same based on experiences with previous expansions, and despite Bungie clearly staying otherwise, isn't real evidence that Bungie has done something wrong, it's evidence that your expectations are unrealistic. Yes, I was generalizing when I described the content that is still available and server usage, but that doesn't change the accuracy of my argument. All the content from year one that you paid for is still available to you, plain and simple. Because it's now in a different format than your used to does not mean that it's been taken from you.
At the same time, Bungie has been clear from the beginning that Year 2 represents a major change in scope and structure for Destiny.
I don't think they've been clear on that. We knew nothing about Year 2 when vanilla Destiny was released. And I think the quote from DeeJ shows that they initially wanted to support players who didn't "opt-in" to new content. We really didn't hear anything about Year 2 until after House of Wolves. Regardless, I would have accepted some of the changes, such as the removal of some of the bounties and the patrolling wolves, etc., because I see that those are world events and cannot necessarily stay the same. But all of the modes that they took away from us are still there. Those haven't changed, we just don't have access to them. And some of them, if they want to remove access - such as Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris which are level dependent - then they need to add tiers to support the non-TTK players. They sold us this content.
All the content from year one that you paid for is still available to you, plain and simple.
This is still the same generalization. Game modes are content. They removed game modes. They removed bounties. They did take content away, it's not just in a different format.

Bounties are very much world dependent, if no wolves how could there be wolve bounties, every bounty except vanguard and crucible (and exotic), were added into the game after the fact, and queens wrath is a prime example of, it is not going to be here forever. Why not make your own private server? Its not bungies job to make it, it often voids the terms of service for the game and console, but if it did happen you could play all year 1 forever.
