Why does everyone say self rez like it's the main attribute of Warlocks? We're also hyper intelligent and have awesome space magic.

Because most people only use warlocks for the self rez crutch.

Its not really a crutch though, its only useful in ToO and Raids, sometimes nightfall or PoE. You have to die to use it, Song of Flame or Radiant skin is waaay more useful. In a war it would work though.
