It might be frowned upon more now than it was in the past, but I don't view it as cheating, but rather cheesing. Finding an easier way around a problem that Bungie designed. When I did this bounty to get my thorn it was after the auto rifle nerf but before you could get the word of crota. It made it extremely hard to do.
