Look. This is obviously an obsession of Bungie's. However as a player, I gain literally nothing from having a perfect mental model of AND name recognition for every location on all the maps.
Bungie, please, figure out a way to maintain whatever intrigue you've strived for by not ever giving us a map of any kind, and give us a functional map of some kind. It's a hassle.
Have you seen the copious YT videos showing how to get to a place?
If I even knew how to get to most of these locations, I probably wouldn't look them up to find out exactly where I need to be and instead explore the general named area, instead of straight up cheating with YouTube guides (Queen's Bounties anyone? Hello? Is this thing on?)
Have you seen the sad, sad enthusiast cartography threads on Reddit?
They're all good people, but my goodness they are absolutely terribly awful at mapping. The praise they receive shows just how much players want something, anything at all.
It's just forcing players to waste a ton of time while literally adding zero value.

1 ReplyProbably just an oversight on bungies part . Plus the maps aren't that big and having a map would highlight how small and linear they actually are

2 RepliesI totally agree. I only play about 2 nights a week, 6 hours a week total. It makes it difficult to remember how to get to places and accomplish a mission. I don't go without a map into the mountains, or even without a gps. I know a lot of paths loop around, but it would be nice to just get there and get the task done.

3 Repliesingame maps would be awesome, even tho that places like the moon or earth are not that big,

1 ReplyI want my ghost to show me a map. I'm sick of being sent to obscure places that are in between patrol zones that you go to maybe once in a single mission. Like how am I supposed to remember where the hell Tharsis Junction is or how to get there?
