This can't own every aspect of my mind. Even Zelda had a map and we have a floating future orb that speaks and literally analyzes the surrounding area every time we take it out of our pocket. Seriously, name me one alternate reality where we have interplanetary spaceships, and reincarnated super humans mastering time/space/energies and cannot figure how to produce a persistent map? It kills the entire mythos. And is as inconvenient as they come.

There are maps in universe, if you recall Cayade-6 is examining one in the vanguard room on the tower.

I get it. The vanguard isn't able to digitize paper. Maybe we can peek over dudes shoulder and screenshot it then, print it, then hang it off our headsets attached to a selfie stick ;) they tease so hard. There's also these two awful points in game: 1) cosmodrome, where we go downstairs in the main area you spawn in and see a map, digitized, on the wall. But just in that room, and in no resolution greater than the director view of earth. 2) when you first land in Venus and dink says, "he doesn't feel good about not having a lay off the land" yeah... Me either buddy. Me either.
