I agree with the others here. Ghost hunting is by far the easiest way to bump your grimoire score.
FYI the ViP kills are the patrol missions that look like diamonds inside a circle. I have no idea why Bungie choose that patrol to be the only one that gives you grimoire...but never mind.

My clan refers to it as the dragonball mission.

Diamond inside a circle? Never paid that much attention. Is it like "kill the [insert enemy here] that has been reking us?" For example kill the Servitor that is in the room that the first boss spawns on patrol, near the Divide in the big building with water everywhere?

Yes yes that's it. The 'kill the thing' patrols. Normally I just skip em, along with recon ones because they take you all over the shop just to finish.

Ok, it sucks that you are at the mercy of whether or not it gives you that particular mission.

Yeah, it's not really farmable for grimoire. Best bet with that one is while out on patrol missions just don't skip it...which I normally do. You can always pick up a patrol, then abandon it. Another will pop up instead afterwards. If you kept doing that you could potentially farm it, but there are easier ways to get grimoire.

I almost always skip it unless it is the last one on the Bounty. I won't for now on.

That's what I do too, if you're doing a patrol bounty fastest way is collecting things or killing a certain amount of enemies. I don't normally do any of the others. Just to get bounty done. I still don't known why bungie picked that ONE patrol for grimoire....surely including all patrols woulda been better.

Yes you are correct. I call them beach balls cuz that's what the mission icon looks like to me before you pick it up.
