The honest truth is, you can have a pretty crappy team and still beat it.
The players control the fight.
Everything is based off of his health percentage, the only way his health goes down is when you damage him.
You decide when the adds spawn, you decide when you want the mines to spawn. You control this encounter, and once you figure that out, it's even easier.

As I said, I understand how the mechanics work. My point is that it's way too much to handle for an the majority of the player base and way too difficult relative to the rewards.

It's suppose to be the end game of HoW. Majority of the player base couldn't originally do atheon, they also couldn't do Crota. It's suppose to be difficult.

And being so difficult as such, should not the rewards match the difficulty? In fact, shouldn't the rewards actually help you in this activity the next time you do it? Both VoG and Crota gear actually helped you the next time you did the respective activity. The PoE gear might help you in a patrol mission or something, and that is about it.
