Thorn's range easily outclasses that of any other hand cannon, except Hawkmoon. Thorn's recoil is easy to control once you get the hang of it. Thorn kills with 2 shots to the head. Red Death kills in two burst, but all shots must land on the head, not easy if your target keeps moving.
I main scout rifles in the crucible and I find myself on par with Thorn at a distance that should be reserved for scout rifles and Sniper rifles. Bungie gave hand cannon a range nerf, but it is clear Thorn wasn't hit.

That is my only real Thorn complaint, the insane range. No HC should be able to snipe from long range. Take the Pantheon map, zone B area. If you can snipe clear across the A side corridor to the C side corridor, that is way too far for ANY HC... including Thorn. The DoT effect of Thorn would be livable if the effective range of the gun was not at scout/sniper range.

It has decent range to begin with but has the send it perk for increased range and accuracy. This is why the nerf didn't really affect it.
