Remember that awesome feeling you got the first time you faced Atheon, where everything you thought going into it was turned on its head? It wasn't just about individual skill; you needed genuine teamwork to come out on top.
Going into it blind, Qodron was really frustrating, and our fireteam was super confused for the longest time. We didn't even notice the Qodron's Eye until maybe the 5th attempt, and didn't realize that you needed to kill him to even have a chance to survive the Containment Fields until quite a few wipes later!
However, once we found our rhythm, started sharing Jailbreaker buffs, rotated DPS duties, etc., I started having a GREAT time- even when we wiped- because for the first time since the Vault, I felt a legitimate sense of teamwork.
I know a lot of people are complaining about how hard it is, but GOD, it's supposed to be endgame content, so it SHOULD be challenging. I, for one, think this week's 34 PoE was a great step in the right direction for Destiny's endgame. :D

well the teamwork is nowhere near as relevant/necessary as you proclaim it to be, since people are soloing this guy already. watch some live streams today if you have access, it will kind of crush your soul. im not trying to hassle you, but it does make your post focus pointless when people can knock this out by themselves in no time.

I do have to agree. As much as it made me mad we figured it out and it felt dang good when we beat it. Skolas on the other hand.. He's just a 'blank blank blank blank' don't wanna get banned for saying the things Skolas deserves to get called. When we beat him. Finally I wasn't even satisfied. So much of my day wasted on this garbage set up boss

Was a great boss with great mechanics. Really needed teamwork, unlike Urrox (jump, shoot, jump, shoot) and Talus McGrenade-your-face-off. There are still 3 more we haven't seen yet, so here's to whAts to come.
-
Agreed. So far, the PoE has been 2/3 with the bosses. Urrox is a pretty good fight, though I can imagine it being hell with the wrong modifiers. Qodron is one of those ones that takes some wiping to understand what the hell is going on, but it's definitely a fun one once you get it going. That Cabal one from last week with the rotating shields was just a battle of attrition. Kind of a boring mechanic, especially against the bullet sponge cabal. Aside from Skolas' bs, I'd say they've done very well in the boss department.

I will say this. I took part in gally shotting it to death. But I will also say im thoroughly enjoyed Bungie created a boss designed around team work like that. However for a bunch of randoms in an lfg game, has neither the exp nor coordination to achieve victory easily. And that is the downfall. I would thoroughly enjoy looking forward to fights like that if some in game guild system was set up. I was also take a bow towards bungie if they installed a way to counter gallys. Such as making the bosses immune for the first 30 seconds. Or immune till all mobs are killed at every 1/4 health.

We just Gjallarhorned him so it was a little less special.
-
I didn't have time to waste before work and nuked him.
-
Challenging- fun hard work Qodron- no it's not fun. He's a weak boss who only uses a cheap ability to get a an edge and is defended by the most annoying enemies in the game.

I love a challenge, but this boss is randomly unfair as hell. There is a distinct difference between a fair challenge, which requires legitimate teamwork to complete, and an unfair challenge in which too many unpredictable elements come into play randomly. I love the concept of this boss and it feels like the actual design of the encounter is well thought out and unique. However, I think it needs to be tweaked. 1. Stop with the frakking hobgoblin spam Bungie. It's lame. Getting shot from across the map when you can't see the enemy clearly is not enjoyable. All it achieves is limiting the playable space on the map because any zone that is remotely open is a killzone. 2. The marked for annihilation/containment fields needs to be on a consistent timer. I have seen attempts where Qodron looks for targets before we have even had a chance to try and locate the Eye. Losing an encounter due to shoddy mechanics rather than a lack of skill is frustrating and not enjoyable. Or the mark came well after the Eye was on us, meaning we had to try and kite him around a small area - if we didn't and killed him we would lose the jailbreaker buff before the mark. 3. The containment bubbles should be on a timer and not based on your health level. Because of your hobgoblin spam, I noticed how you might get unlucky and get hit by a hobgoblin right before the containment field meaning instant death, not cool. 4. On all bosses can we have the cutscene removed or at least a grace period where he can't blast us before we regain control and/or adds don't spawn for a few seconds. I'm sure this fight is doable, but considering how annoying this week's 34 is to get to Qodron (not hard, annoying) with no checkpoints we barely had the patience to learn a fight like that with its random elements we couldn't predict. If we could return tomorrow night to attempt it we might. As it stands, that was so not fun that none of us really see it as worth it this week. I have better things to do than deal with a largely unfair encounter.

I wish every boss was like him.
-
I completely agree I was frustrated at first But then it was fun
-
So true, best boss in the DLC so far (I have't fought Skolas in PoE 35 yet) Beat Qodron twice legit as a 33, no Gjallarhorn cheese. It's a great fight.
-
It's not HARD. It's time consuming. Huge difference. There is no sense of accomplishment in wasting 30 minutes of your life completing what you could have done in 30 seconds.
-
Bumpin' big time. Had a blast killing that dude haha
-
If everything worked as it should it would be fine; but the fist 6 time we faced him the eye was nowhere to be found. It took the Internet search to find out about the eye; but when the eye came so did all of the hobgoblin, and the adds killed us inside the bubbles. So no he is not a valid BOSS. I don't know how to classify him except as a cheap put the players in their place insult.
-
It would be so much better if he didn't spawn so many axis hemoglobins
-
the qodron boss mechanic is unfun and feels lazy as as hel
-
Agreed . 3 gallys and a weapon of light bubble was awesome in that 30 second fight
-
I enjoyed it as well!!
-
Well put, couldn't agree more.
-
I haven't done PoE yet but I look forward to facing this Goliath!

bump to my fingers bleed

Edited by BiigDaddyDellta: 5/29/2015 10:33:25 AMI think it could be fun yes but I still think the containment kill is quite a bit too fast and happens a bit too often. Once a minute would have been plenty challenging, plus after getting jailbreaker a few times I still never broke the bubble. I was using found verdict btw. I just had Gjallarhorn in thrice and slayed him in seconds... lucky I guess.
-
It wasn't as fun the first time, as me and my team did it straight away, and doing the gally method is kinda boring in our eyes, we ran through multiple strats till we ended up killing him, I celebrated
-
Challenge? Pop bubble Fire rockets Don't die
-
Agreed! Killed him in 10 seconds with Ghorns.
