Raid Noobs...

So I really need to know if this community is starting to become a bunch of elitist shitholes, or I am talking to the wrong people. As a raid virgin, ABSOLUTELY no one wants to deal with trying to run a raid with me (even though I've seen them both done many times and will do whatever you tell me to, even if it's to jump off a ledge), and teach me the ropes. So my questions to you are , 1) would you work with a raid virgin/noob/any other fancy names you have for them? 2) if not, why the hell not? 3) how hard can it be to tell someone to do something, especially if they've seen it before? Comment below and help me understand the what the problem is. Edit1: I really appreciate all the support guys, it's refreshing to know that the community hasn't devolved and there are lots of great people around. I should have mentioned that I am on 360 (I know I wish I could upgrade), but either way I really appreciate everyone who wants to help. If you want to send a friend request my way then feel free, and again I thank you all for the support. Edit2: I'm amazed at how many good people are out there, and even if we are on different consoles I really appreciate that you took the time to say something. Maybe someone else will notice and you can help them! I've sent some friend requests to all those on the 360, but if I missed you then feel free to send me one. Thanks to all! Edit3: NO LONGER A (raid) VIRGIN!!! Thanks to help from you guys on the forum I was able to find a really good group of people and ran both VoG and CE! I appreciate all the help guys! Edit4: If you are a raid noob and need some help, post your level, class, and console! Maybe some one will help you through like they helped me! If you want to help out, post your info and someone can find you! Good luck guardians, and thanks for keeping Destiny great!

  • I was a raid Noob at a point. Then I met these people who were like yeah I'll help ya. Now I have a constant team to raid with and we will even bring new people in. Its tough being a new player to destiny everybody expects you to be a pro witch is bullshit really.

  • One of the most entertaining things about the raids is running "noobs" through it. Im by no means awesome and I havnt done hundreds of raids, but I've done enough to know whats going on and the jumping puzzle in VoG.....thats where noobs shine man. Shoot at where they needs to get to then say "ok go!" haha so much fun watching. Of course i'll help em out if they cant get it "eventually" the fun part is figuring it out.

  • I have no problem with raid noobs. But running a full team of raid noobs through can be difficult. That just means you need a lot of patience and time. With a group of experienced players taking 2 or 3 noobs though it's not bad.

Last week I must've solo'd the lamps and bridge two dozen times after completing it for myself just to teach and gear up noobies. The only time raid virgins bother me is when they act like they know it all just from watching a few videos.

My thoughts. If your on my Friends list and have never done one before you will get drug through one if I need a 6th Member. Pretty much guaranteed if your online and we are raiding. To me honestly you simply explain each part of the Raid before it happens. Normally everybody has a spot they normally gravitate to and you simply assign the new person to a spot and they will slowly figure out everybody else's role and the second time thru they will have a really good idea and become self sufficient.

    • I remember my first CE raid. I was lvl 31 and the group I was with was mostly 32. for some reason they thought everyone had to be 32 and basically put me in the corner. I didn't mind, as they carried me through the end. It was pretty exciting getting the loot.

    • I remember my days of raid virginity, what I did was studied up on the raid with walkthroughs and guides from YouTube, then when I thought I knew it I went for my first raid and it went smoothly

      • I'm a raid noob. Started Vog a couple of times over the weekend but i found myself getting frustrated at the others as they didn't seem to understand the concept of splitting down and protecting the 3 plates. So i never got past the first part. Also got no friends that play destiny.

        • I help people all the time w raids. I did run into some people trying to do hard mode as noobs. My question is why would anyone try to do hard mode without mastering normal??? that is a sure way to piss off a fireteam.

          • I'm really new to raiding and have had people get annoyed if we wipe too much but no one has been rude or booted me. Most important thing is to profess your ignorance/noobness as soon as you get the invite. I often find people just want you to listen and do, people who tend to get hate are those who won't stop talking about irrelevant stuff... Also, I'm on 360 too, add me if you wanna run Raids Wednesday evenings (GMT) or weekends!!

            • Why does everyone think raid groups will not take noobs?!!? That's all I take in the raids now. There is no reason for people to not. The raids have been out for a while.

            • Yeah the community is really annoying when it comes to matchmaking. I've run the raids a few times but I still struggle to find a team who aren't complete douches. The best solution is to join a clan. Raiding with the same guys every week makes it easy and fun.

            • I love the odd raid Virgin in the group, nothing beats the feeling of hearing the excitement as an exotic drops for them, to then look in the feed and see no land beyond. I never have the heart to say anything lol.

Baby when it comes to taking virginity, I'm always signed up. Not to mention first in line. As long as they are over 18 that's where I draw the line.......wait, what were we talking about again?

            • I'll run full fresh raid for anyone if I'm on and not playing with friends. I probably run 20 or so each week. Admittedly only started a month or so ago. I was late coming to the raid party so always figured that I might as well help others out

            • My clan enjoys taking raid noobs through. Even made an entire vid for doing vog norm (had to break it into 5 parts due to youtube upload restrictions) and plan on doing a vid for hm as well as vids for crota norm and hm.

I've been around the forum for months now and have been helping people with raids on a weekly basis. But WOW! i never realised that people still act douchey towards new raider! I think this is where all the initial Raid experience/opinion of the player comes from, have a bad experience and the player will be put off but the activity and not want to come back. I was very fortunate to how found a couple of great raider back in november who help me and a friend through our first VoG ever. That's the experience that has stuck with me and i can.t raid enough, they weren't the kind of people to "do everything and move along" type but rather explained in detail every stage of the raid and we did it in 1hr40 min back then, some of the advice given to us then is still practiced today and works wonders. A couple of things i would advise you though (I don't know your age and i don't mean to offend anyone but that's how it is unfortunately) 1) AVOID the squeakers, my god they are annoying! Imagine yourself as the swordbearer on Crota HM and you have a high pitched voice piercing your ear drum tell you how many hits and how to swings that sword, lets not forget that i have around 50 completion, so i am full aware of how to run the sword, and he has about 3. All i ask is that if you are not swordbearing, be a quiet ledge monkey and listen to the swordbearer's request for rockets 2) Try and be part of the same fireteam that runs raids every week, my fireteam consist of 4 so every week we will either invite 2 other friend of we will find new/inexperienced players from the forum and help them through. An example was when we helped a partially deaf person through raids (VoG NM and HM, Crota NM and HM too). Like you she felt victimised because she had no experience, but then how could she have experience when everyone kept kickinig her out just because of a disability. Needless to say that her faith in humanity has been restored and we will keep helping her until she is fully happy with the raid.
