So in your parents generation, or grandparents generation, were they shooting up schools,
Oh yeah. In fact, the biggest school killing ever happened in my grandparents' generation.
killing family members,
You betcha. It's always been true that a sizeable percentage of murder victims were members of the killer's family.
bombing big time events,
Certainly. My parents' generation was the undisputed champs of bombing.
arguing about gays
There wasn't much arguing about gays in those generations. My own parents and grandparents weren't guilty of this, thankfully, but members of those generations tended to view gay people as subhuman, not worthy of acknowledgement of any sort. Again, there's no such thing as the good old days.
Fortunately enough, the argument is pretty much over nowadays. The loudmouthed teabilly morons still echoing the sentiments of generations past are clearly on the wrong side of history.
when gas prices are over $3?
Dang! Whereabouts are you? Gas prices here are barely over $2 per gallon at the moment.

Yes I understand murders and other horrible things have happened. We can name WWI - WWII, Vietnam war, etc. I guess my perception comes from seeing shit on the news Every. Single. Day. Nothing but news about someone getting shot, or marijuana, or someone got seriously injured by some asshole. So I'm a lot more susceptible to seeing this violence and what-not. Gas prices were down to $1.99 and it hasn't been that low in wayyy over a decade. It was 1.99 for maybe 3 weeks then I went last week to get gas and saw that it was up to $2.46, and even go through my city seeing prices 2.80 - 3.50. I'm up in the North-West.
