The "Shift" of Destiny PvE to PvP

This game, while a fiscal success, has been identified by not only a large number of the player base but also industry peers as a dissappointment and the continued bleed out of players confirms that Bungie / Activision has no -blam!-ing clue how to make a PvE game nowadays... I dont know about anyone else, but i for one have seen a decisive shift from a game that was marketed as another epic Bungie PVE game to an Activision CoD type PVP franchise... They have continually destroyed the PvE aspect of weapons with their PvP tweaking, and honestly their PvP is found wanting... The "additions" to the PvE aspect of this game are sorry as hell and the fact that there are bugs that were identified 6-7 months ago still in the game / not fully fixed, only tend to confirm their lost interest in really supporting PvE... I fully expect Destiny to turn into the rinse repeat format of CoD, with PvP being the only reason to play it for about 5 hours, realize its space CoD and then never play it again. I havent played consistantly like i did the first 5 months for about the last 3 weeks... i got the limited edition of the game so i am locked into at least "trying" HoW... Honestly at this point I expect to be hugely dissappointed... Sucks because most who bought it, did so excited for the epic PvE story and gameplay... And please all you -blam!-tard fanboys and "they dont owe you anything" types... REALIZE... they marketed the game a certain way.. they delivered something different.. fine... but at least own up to the shit instead of brushing it off with bullshit posts and a PVP agenda shift.

  • Seriously? Why is this a surprise to anyone? It's been a well known fact that Activision specifically mandated PVP over PVE. Anything they can do to entice the muiltiplayer market to Destiny can and will be done, Activision wants lightning to strike twice. Unfortunately, Destiny is just not that kind of game, people actually wanted something different and Activision's accounting department can't understand that (or doesn't trust it)

  • Finally some players realize this. Giving us pvp maps with the expansions is far less work for bungie than having to program new pve content! Thats why they try to push players towards pvp

    • Everything about PvE is lazy. Invisible walls RNG No Trading Pitiful number of strikes. Pitiful Campaign No variation at all in PvE missions (defend dinklebot) No high level patrol mode No variation/imagination with bounties No crafting Upgrade system makes no sense (we could be collecting dildos and MnM's for upgrades and it would make just as much sense) Here's an expansion.... Go recollect and relevel your exotics! Fix cheese but never fix glitches No Faction content Grimoire is on a website FFS No backstory My Awoken character reacts the same to learning about the Awoken as other races? Cutscenes were laughable and unskippable Ridiculous nonsensical economy with 20 different currencies and a glimmer cap? I don't need to go on. Everyone knows the game is garbage. Anyone still playing just likes to grind items and collect virtual things.

Well said. Thank you, OP. Just gotta say, I find it hilarious how they care so much about the PvP, it would seem, yet on a poll on the trending page 3 spaces below this, almost 90% of players who responded play PvE more. I know it may be a slightly skewed sample, but those numbers don't completely lie.

        • You are deranged if you think minor weapon tweaks have fundamentally altered the core structure of the game. This PVP vs PVE raving is just crazy butthurt

IMO, they are focusing more on PvP lately (and in all the wrong ways, I might add) because that's where a lot of players are migrating to. Let's face it, the DB DLC was wafer thin in a game that already was half-starved for content. On top of that, their horrible design decisions regarding gear progression rendered a big portion of their content (namely, Vault of Glass) pointless. You could completely skip VoG and get better gear from the vendors. You simply can't afford to not keep old content relevant when you have so little new content. There's only so many times the hamster will run in that wheel before he says, "-blam!- this stupid shit, I'm going to take a nap." I personally only play PvP now the few times I'm bored enough to actually start up Destiny. Nearly everyone in my clan has stopped raiding, and they'll only log on occasionally to do a Nightfall or the Weekly Strike, or to join me in PvP. That's it. Sure, you'll see players returning for the HoW DLC because many of them already paid for it, but it will lose its appeal even more quickly than DB did if it's just more of the same pointless grinding on the same planets (especially if they reset Exotics again). What they may not realize however is that PvP is not the doorway to success for this game. There are far, far better FPS PvP games out there. I therefore agree with most of you that the majority of their focus should be on PvE. Yet the only way they are going to salvage PvE, and this game at this point, is if they dramatically increase our real estate and along with it our available activities, progress the story (in a meaningful, non-cryptic way), fix a lot more of the long-standing bugs, and stop hitting the reset button on weapons/armor so that players can actually have a more individualistic look and feel to them. The list goes on. Basically, they need to spend gobs of money to bring this game up to the level of expectations we all have for it, but I honestly don't see that happening at this point. Not if Activision shareholders have anything to say about it anyway. For me, at least, this game is going back to Gamestop the moment I have my shiny new Xbox One, and I won't be looking back.

            • plain & simple they have a lot of OTHERS peoples money riding on the franchise & bungie is absolutely clueless about anything other than low grade pvp games so in the false hope that they can turn this game into something better ( and more popular ) than say COD they have put all their limited efforts into the PVP end of things a huge mistake & judging from both these forums & the amount of players who will never return a fatal one shame too w/ a lot of work this game could have been everything it was advertised to be and then some

              • I honestly can't stand pvp. The netcode is awful and it's actually more boring to me than pve. I really don't like how bungie constantly pushes iron banner events and pvp updates which ruin the pve experience. But I'm only committed till HoW, unless if bloodborne is as good as it looks I won't even make it to the next DLC.

              • This game has gone the way of the Assassin's Creed franchise; Originally designed for story but when all the little kids with pumped up kicks, started whining for PvP, the story design collapsed and they lost a lot of consumers. Where the original AC had 10-20 hours (20, if you were a completionist), the new games have less than 8... and Multi-Player is STRONGLY ENFORCED to obtain greater gear... I bought Unity on L-Date and dropped it 1 day later when I realized what I was sold. We live in an age where single-player has been exiled from FPS and most other games aswell, providing less and less PvE and even lesser single player content.

              • Games core mechanics are bullshit, check out my weapons post. Only reason I still play is to keep in touch with my clan and to make sure everything in running smooth. That and the hopes that a 15 minute nf run will bless me with RNGesus sweaty nut sack instead of the gjallahorn I so desire :/...

                • They were given an unrealistic release date that's why the story is so terrible and pvp is so good they worked on pvp first then they didn't have Enuf time for the story so they'll be real easing the other parts of it as add ons

                  • To me it is interesting that the game is heading in the PvP direction. I honestly thought for a while that they wouldn't do that as there was no way Activision would want something competing against COD for the PvP market but after the past few months it has become abundantly clear that this game is leaning more and more towards PvP. I just hope that they separate the two aspects of the game so that when they decide to nerf pulse rifles because they're too "OP" PvE players won't have to deal with the garbage again.

                    • I began off playing PVE strictly, refusing to touch Crucible until I got my thorn bounty around when the game first came out. I was one of the first of my buddies to get Thorn in its horrible state. Thorn was sort of my initiation into PVP and after to getting to rank 5 in the first Iron banner, I was really good at it. But now PvP is what I prefer to play because after playing in PvP for a good while, the vendor gear that they sell is some of well, the best gear in the game unless you have raid equipment. The only reason I play PVE now is for bounties and or I want the marks for materials.

You guys are crying just because you want to cry you want to say that this game is a pve base game but the true is most of the "pvp players" also clear the game content every week
