So there's the transcript from my conversation with an online rep. I highlighted my questions in yellow and their response in green.
They issued me a refund without hesitation. Guess I'll be visiting Wally World at 12 AM EST.
Such a shame.
Edit # 1
Since there are so many nitwits on these forums, I felt I needed to add this. My reason for canceling the digital order was so that I could play at midnight my local time with friends that are buying the disc. It had to do with the fact that waiting until 3 AM would've changed the release plan WITH FRIENDS that's been in place for a while now.
So please in the name of Al Bundy, quit assuming that people in EST want to play "before everyone else" or "you can't find shit to do till 3 AM you're pathetic" or all of the stupid other crap some of you guys are saying.
Think of it like this. You're invited to an unreal New Year's Eve party. Unfortunate for you, your 94 Civic broke down and the next cab isn't available until 3 AM. According to you smart azzes in this thread you wouldn't give a rats azz cause it's only 3 hours. You watch the ball fall from home, drink alone, and show up to the party at 3 AM.
You show up, hot chicks have been claimed, booze is dried up, and party poppers have been popped. You missed the midnight fun with your friends. Always next year I guess.
TL:DR - It's not about getting to play early, before anyone else, or world firsts. It's about playing with friends and experiencing the launch. A guy below gave a good example. Imagine starting xmas, Halloween, Easter, or whatever 3 hours late. Sure you can do it but it's not much fun.

Edited by sergeantawesome: 8/27/2014 8:05:11 AMImagine going to a New Year's Eve party where there are drunk chicks and lots of them. Now come back to reality where you are playing Destiny at 12am with a bunch of dudes.
-
Play the game the day after... Not that big a deal, it's nowhere near as big as missing the New Years party because that happens at a very specific time and won't happen again for another year. You can play the game anytime after the servers go up
-
I made I thread about this a month ago and everyone was saying that's not true people truly are stupid now wish I could wait for mid night release cuz I'd do that instead of waiting till 301 my time
-
Well that sucks you can't do it but at least you'll be able to play with your friends, makes it better. I'm happy cause with xbox one I was able to pre purchase the game, and pre install it, so basically 9/9 at 12:00 am I am gonna be on but my friends are going to the gamestop expo so I'm going solo unless I meet some people playing xD
-
sony europe let you play at midnight here .
-
I have school on 9/8 and 9/9, so I won't be staying up late. I could get the digital, but since there are many game stops on my way to and back from school, I'll just pick it up there. Besides I already pre ordered from gamestop since last year
-
Sony message.
-
I'm going to laugh when the servers go up at 12pst globally and nobody got to play until then. Everyone keeps asking when it will be released not "when will the servers be up for each edition"
-
I'm getting the PS4 bundle from Amazon. I get to wait till 4-6 pm that day before I get to play. Sucks, but oh well I'm getting it at least :) Good you figured out about the digital release time ahead of launch, instead of being disappointed the day of.
-
yeah assholes on this forum talk big shit at anything u say here. i get everything youre saying. if i had a bunch of pals i played with id do exactly what yr doing. best of luck on launch day. you and yr buds are gonna have a blast:)
-
meh wouldn't have mattered for me. Probably gonna spend at least an 1 hr maybe 1hr 15min in line at Gamestop waiting to get our copies, then 15 mine before we are all home, and a 20 min installation... all together it would have only delayed the game just over an hour. Maybe not even an hour if there ends up being a log in que.
-
+1 for you're story. Don't let the booze go to waste.

This is only for the digital edition. That's why it's best to buy the physical copy.

ninjadragonkllr What time will the servers be open for the public in North America and worldwide? When it is September 9th somewhere in the world, and you have access to your very own version of Destiny, it will be time for you to create a character that will keep you company for a good, long time. Retailers will stick to time-zones. Our servers won’t know the difference. Retailers will break street date. Our servers won’t. As the post from the weekly update states the servers will be live as soon as it is sept 9th on the planet. This means for all of us in EST in theroy you could be playing sept 8th at 9am if you had a copy of the game.
-
Supposed to take 2-3h to instal lol thats why they delay
-
You both get to play at the same time.
-
Honestly though

Um, it kinda said that when you bought it. Learn to read
-
Lol you still going to wait 3 hours to install lmao
-
Unless you are in a small town, or have a really organized retailer, or you camp out for 6 hours you probably won't get to play until 3 anyway...
-
Edited by VEXrobotics: 8/25/2014 10:12:06 PMI'm honestly gonna laugh when Sony doesn't let you launch the "Downloader" like the beta until 3am. Then you will have like 20gb to download and it will take like 6 hours xD
-
Your transcript is right cause I got the same thing from them last night.
-
I will already have the game preloaded on my system before the release. And I will be sleeping when the game is released. All well a guess I can always play it in the morning like a normal person and save myself all the hassle. :)

Ok so I am either very confused or I found the solution. If, at midnight EST, the hard copy of games will be released and once you get home you can play it, doesn't that mean you can do the same for Digital Guardian Edition? Bungie said if it's 9/9 somewhere you can play Destiny, and Sony, I believe, will let us pre download digital copies so that means we will have the game beforehand. I don't see how Sony can make digital copies wait 3 hours when the hard copies don't; if Bungie turns the servers on you should be able to play. Again I'm just confused and I am not 100% sure that this is the case. But it seems very likely, because it's practically impossible for Sony to just stop digital versions.
