I do not believe that you can play Destiny across the Generation. The PS3 won't be on the same server to game on as the PS4. The same goes for the XbOx 360 and the XbOx OnE.
However. If you have a copy for each of the machines. Both generations, the XbOx 360 and XbOx One, for example, you can use the same characters for each game. You create a character on the XbOx OnE you can use that character on the XbOx 360.
As far as I know, this is how it works.
I'm not sure why they aren't cross compatible through generation as the PS3 and the PS4 servers, for example, in Final Fantasy online is cross generation and cross compatible with the PC and the game DC Universe is also cross generation for the PS3 and PS4.

Yea same with Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Need for Speed Rivals was cross generation between both consoles. I don't see why Destiny can't do the same. Oh and I would switch my character if I could but my bro plays on the Xbox 360 and I play on the Xbox One. We wanted to play together and with our friends but Bungie won't allow that unless we buy a second Xbox One or Xbox 360, which sucks :/ Thx for answering though!!

Yeah, kinda sucks. I have loads of friends on the PS3 and PS4 but I will be on the PS4 to play this game. I was considering buying it for the 360 too, as I don't have any plans to buy a OnE, but most people I know that are on the XbOx LiVe system are on the OnE rather than the 360 now. So Ironic. ;)

Same here. I have only a couple fdienda on the One and more friwnds on the 360 plus my brother plays on the 360. I hope Bungie can change this!!
