I'd venture the people playing female characters aren't doing out of some deep seeded issues but the people asking the question the OP did probably have a few deep seeded issues....
Personally I like hot female rock stars, I like hot female movie stars, I like hot female video game characters. I'm not my character ingame, I'm just playing a game.....
