Free DLC (Not the expansion packs)

(So, apparently people have misunderstood the meaning of this post, commenting before they even read. I am not asking for the expansions to be free, or anything of the like. I'm suggesting that it would be cool if Bungie would hand out a little appreciation gift every once in a while, like a christmas armor shader around the holidays, or a halloween themed class item. Little things like that. I've pre-ordered the expansion passes and I 100% support expansions. I just hope this game doesn't turn into endless micro-transactions. That is the whole meaning of this post.) Yes, free. Not "pay 2.50 dollars for an exclusive map", not "pay 4 bucks to get cool shaders", FREE. DLC. Keep in mind, I'm not asking for the world here, just a little something here and there to show the fans they are appreciated. A red and green shader around the holidays, perhaps. Or maybe a Halloween themed class item for free in October. Or *GASP* a free map or two every year. I'm fine paying for expansion packs, especially for a game like Destiny, but I hope they don't take the activision route of making you pay for EVERY. SINGLE. LITTLE. THING. I have high hopes for this game, I just hope that free shaders for pre-ordering cod doesn't turn into buy shaders for .50 instead of earning them and have that turn into pay 5.00 to get a random rare gun. Anyway, feedback is appreciated, thanks. :)

  • You get free daily missions for Story and Nightfall modes plus high end weekly Nightfall missions. That might mean new gear or weapons in the high end Nightfall missions. Won't know for sure till we start playing them. No free maps. Bungie says everything has to be EARNED. No trading or buying stuff. So no reason for a micro-transaction system. Hopefully they can stick to their guns. They open the trading stuff, next they'll need to open up buying stuff. Shaders for the holidays would be nice. :-)

  • I see your point, but I have to argue against it only because 1: You'll know whose earned their colors, badges, and weapons, if they make it specific to "buy <color> shader for .50" or "buy xx gun for $5" Ontop of that, Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto 5 with plans for all kinds of DLCs, and from day one, and true to their word, the DLC has been FREE. Yeah, you download the stuff and have to buy it in-game with in-game currency, which you can, in online, buy with real money. Or you can go earn it just as well. I'm a fan of free DLC, and definately not a fan of Pay-to-Win, or even paying for advantages. That takes the fun out of games. Who still plays Fight Night Champion? It had "pay $5 to max your boxers stats" on release day. What's the point of getting good at the game when you can just pay to win? I like the idea of epic DLC for purchase like a new planet, or a new full set of armor/weapons that can also be earned in-game (by finding, or saving up glimmer); but I'll never decline free DLCs of appreciation such as holiday themed weapons, armor, or shaders. Though most tend to ruin the immersive nature of most games I play, it IS a choice to use or ignore them. I know, I know, I'm very on the fence.

    • Free would be good, but Activision sure does like micro transactions. In the most recent call of duties you could pay for weapon skins. WEAPON SKINS FOR PETE'S SAKE! DeeJ don't let them charge us for cool stuff. Pretty please with sugar on top :D

    • Everytime they release a new expansion they should have a weekend event a couple weeks later that rewards a unique class item specific to the theme of that expansion. This event will take place somewhere accessible ONLY to that expansion. So a couple weeks into the expansion should be ample time for anyone to purchase said expansion and learn of the details of the event.

    • Sounds like something DE does for War frame Players, I remember in the first year alone, every Holiday whether it be Chinese new year or Christmas, they would have a free colour pack on the market. It was actually pretty cool, Even now a year after launch im still using my Free Halloween colour pack. I think this would be a nice addition to the game from Bungies part. Oh and by the way your title is a little misleading or rather is missing information. Just my two cents.

    • I wouldn't be surprised if there is a little cosmetic stuff for people to buy to support the game. I am not paying a monthly fee like I have for other online game so I don't mind paying for Expansions to get more content. It wouldn't be surprise if once the game is established they would do season events where you get free items by doing special seasonal missions or events. So I am all for free stuff but I want to also know that Bungie is supported enough to keep their employees paid, to keep their servers running and to make sure new content is coming.

      • I get what you're saying. I think some folks may have speed read your post and gotten the wrong idea. I'm pretty sure we will get plenty of smaller updates for free and just pay for the larger expansions every few months. I'm almost certain they have stated this at some point.

        • I think they are going to take the microtransaction route, probably like GTA5, I just cant see them not doing it, not for a game like this.

        • Stop the bitching about DLC. If you want the new content you pay for it. How many freaking DLC or Expansions WoW have? Does -blam!-ers have being milking the cow for years the thing is everything in the DLC is knew to the game. They are not even that expensive. If you have the money for a PS4 or 60$ for a new game what is stoping you to save some 20$ and get new content. I don't think the company is greedy is a business and this are made to make profit not to give free shit away. They have to pay developers for the hours they put in to the new content and the hours they put into daily content or monitoring. I think they have a good plan for the game will make your money worth it not like -blam!-ing COD.

            • Welcome to the real world buddy where everything costs money you may never have noticed because people paid for you but this is how it works. And if my extra 5 dollars for a map helps gaming companies continue their good work by making awesome games then I guess I'll just have to suffer and pay up.

              • Id prefer if they released it for a fee first, then made it free when the next dlc is released. That way the game devs -hopefully- get some money for the work they put in on the DLC.

              • if it's need to continue the story then I'll buy it, that"s if I like the story. all other stuff not needed for story progression is just fluff and not worth my time.

              • I don't mind cosmetic stuff. Sure, free little things are lovely (See Borderlands 2) but cheap / charity donation based non gameplay related stuff is fine by me. I don't feel I'm missing out on a part of a game, and it can be a good way to jig a little money up. It can look a bit daft with reams upon reams of purchasable cosmetics packs, and the game URGING YOU TO BUY THEM ALL THE TIME, so a modicum of restraint, please.
