Destiny was recently announced as "The Most Pre-Ordered New IP in History."
Here are the numbers by platform(as of August 2nd, 2014):
Total on Playstation: 691,246
PS4: 592,955
PS3: 98,291

Total on Xbox: 688,587
XB1: 486,440
360: 202,147

Grand Total:1,379,833
Despite Destiny primarily being marketed to the Playstation player base and PS4 drastically outselling the Xbox One, the difference in preorders(as of 8/2/2014) is small. Why is this?
It's important to note that these numbers only represent the United States.
Discuss.
Edit: Added a grand total.

I suspect global numbers to be in favor of Sony for reasons obvious (Available in More Countries worldwide) The Exclusives are merely an extra and the primary factor is availability
-
I know this is random but I wanted to know which Xbox I should get cause that's what my girlfriend plays on
-
Now do those numbers include the Digital Guardian edition? I only ask this as I know in the past that vgcharts did not include digital downloads in there numbers.
-
Edited by Twohothardware: 8/15/2014 6:14:10 AMSince those are just US numbers it's because most of Sony's advantage in sales isn't from the US but globally. There will also be a lot of Destiny players on Xbox for the fact it's being developed by Bungie. This is actually a good thing if your a Destiny gamer in the US on Xbox because all you should be concerned about is the player counts for the US as those will be the only ones you'll be getting put into matchmaking with.
-
Statistics from USA only, would be good to see global numbers. Still, plenty of people to game with which is always good.

Edited by Randy Shibai: 8/15/2014 6:16:42 AMDid you guys see the numbers for the established IP known as Call of Duty? XBone :D - 62,608 XB360 - 68,564 PS4 - 44,646 PS3 - Not even top 40 That is what you call a flop. And before you start throwing the half billion number around, that's a number indicating the investment cost over a ten year period. That's a 50 million per year investment. At 41,474,760 for presale numbers, pre taxes, not factoring in LE and GE for Sony and 41,315,220 for presale numbers, pre taxes, not factoring in LE and GE for Microsoft this could hardly be called a flop, not even close. Also, don't forget that presale don't account for total sales. Try harder, bud.

I am actually pleased to see that Micro$oft and $ony are relatively close in total number $ales on Destiny!
-
Much closer than I expected.
-
Unless you live in a large city preorders are generally unnecessary. I live in southwest Florida, other than the beta I had no real reason to preorder the game. I shared my beta keys with friends who will purchase the game, but again they have no reason to preorder... They played the beta and enjoyed it enough where they will buy it. I've no doubt the game will do well, the preorder numbers just tend to be the people who do follow things like E3 or Gamescom (like me:p)
-
I honestly expected Playstation to be beating Xbox by A LOT, this makes me happy for some reason
-
Maybe is because bungie is new to some PS players. But Activision is a good name for them to start winning their trust.
-
Not even 1,379,834?
-
Dont forget destiny dident do much addvitisment they did stuff at events like e3 and what not and they released the alpha and beta which was really well done , so lucky people like yourself can play destiny and say " oh this is how destiny plays and feels I like it and it gives me the goosenipps" wheres games like COD and halo and watchdogs and other games get adds out every on billboards , tv, super bowls just unleshes there PR teams lol , destiny did great with there numbers I think.

Recently read this http://www.gamespot.com/articles/destiny-budget-nowhere-near-500-million-bungie-says/1100-6420802/ Pretty much is Bungie saying their budget was nowhere near 500 million.
-
360 crushes PS3 by roughly the same amount the PS4 does Xbone. #math #discussed
-
this is inaccurate, when I pre ordered the game I was never asked what console I wanted it for.
-
Edited by KDeduster: 8/15/2014 5:22:21 AMLess than 1.4 million. That's surprising
-
Wooo go 369! Yea
-
Ps3 isn't that popular
-
Edited by A Saturnalia: 8/15/2014 4:51:43 AMMFW based solely on those numbers Destiny is still a flop. Even if you said every single one of those numbers were people buying the ps4 bundles its still losing 150,000,000 dollars
-
Does this mean we are going to outsell CoD?
-
Because bungie had to work harder to make a name for itself to sony costumes. Microsoft already had prior experience with the company so they needed less of an introduction and less of a marketing focus.
-
How is it primarily being marketed to the Playstation?
-
Don't forget those are just retail numbers. PS4 will get huge boost from digital guardian editions.
