As a regular Wall Creator, this was a very concerning issue to me, but I think I found a solution that eliminates the need for Forum Ninjas to lock and unlock your thread (not that they can exactly do that anymore).

If I were the original poster, I could fit 40,000 characters of thread into a single continous page using this method (you just click on the chain to the right of the time stamp to grab the list of posts.

Edited by KingInTheNorth: 1/12/2013 2:21:31 AMI don't think you can do the nested replies with the OP you can only "Comment."
-
Yeah, that's not a problem. First you make the OP with your original post, then you comment with your second post, then you reply to that comment with your third post, and finally you reply to that reply to create the fourth post. To get a chain that shows the OP, the comment, the reply, and the reply to the reply, you click the chain to the right of the Reply to the Reply and link it in the original post.

That's "Steve Jobs" stuff right there . . .

OOOOOOOOOH. Is that what that chain symbol is for? Well that is how it will be done I guess. What do you think the best way to have the OP would be then? Should the only thing in the OP be the link that that chain symbol provides?

Edited by Hylebos: 1/12/2013 2:57:04 AMI don't think that having just a link to the nested thread is the best way to do things. Personally, for a multi-post thread I would definitely include a Youtube Video to either help illustrate the topic or set the mood for the thread with some music, or I would include a picture or diagram that relates to the topic at hand to give the thread some more personality from the onset. From there, I would write the first post as an introduction, introducing the reader to the topic or problem I plan to write about, and hook them into the rest of the thread. I would conclude the thread with a link to the nested chain, which would again display the introduction and the rest of the thread. This might prevent some users from being scared off from the sheer enormity of the wall, and if your introduction does a good job summarizing your thread, it gives the reader something to reply to even if they don't read the rest of the thread.
