I don't care about a gameplay reveal
For those who will actually read this i'll explain, otherwise there will be a tl:dr at the bottom.
So we all know about the upcoming gameplay reveal on May 18th; I'm sure we are all very hyped and excited about this upcoming tidbit of the sequel to everyone's favorite scifi shooter. But it's not all good. I'm gonna step in front of this hype train to hopefully get some people to ask the right questions of bungie; because honestly I feel we need to question this game or else we'll end up with a repeat of year 1. so these are just some things i'd like to suggest to the community to get them thinking. 1. Destiny has never had an issue with gameplay. The gameplay, be it guns, abilities, melee etc, have, for me at least, always been very solid. Perhaps destiny's best attribute. I don't need to be shown something I'm already fairly confident will be of pretty good quality. 2. Will weapons be balanced in pvp and pve independently? or will we have a repeat of the last couple of years? 3. Will characters be fleshed out this time around? or will we be expected to read grimoire cards? 4. Will we have in game lfg? or proper matchmaking systems in order to find groups for a primarily coop game? 5. 30 fps? 60 fps? 6. Content...content....content. Bungivision has said they have a plan to supply us with that steady drip of goodness. But what does that mean? will there actually be a steady stream of content; no not just content quality content? 7. What kind of grind are we in for exactly? 8. Will microtransactions continue to encroach into the game ? could we be facing a call of duty situation? 9. Should we be expecting a demo or the beta/will the beta be indicative of the final product? So I know we all can't wait for destiny to come out. and we're all very excited. But please just think about what theyre showing us; think about what you want or don't want. And be sure to question what's going on. tl:dr we're all really hyped, but we need to ask the important questions. Will destiny 2 be a big improvement? or will it be the next call of duty? with some graphics updgrades, but another rehash of the same old stuff?

  • Pretty sure it'll be 30fps for consoles, and 60fps for pc if that can work.

Will weapons be balanced in pvp and pve independently? or will we have a repeat of the last couple of years?
THIS 108 times over!!!!!
3. Will characters be fleshed out this time around? or will we be expected to read grimoire cards?
The trailer tells me yes. Destiny 1 had nothing remotely close to the D2 reveal trailer.
We're in agreement on all these.
7. What kind of grind are we in for exactly?
If its anything like Year 1. D2 will sink. D1 Year 1 grind made it a running joke & tarnished the brand. Many hardcore players will (obviously) disagree. But AoT exposed the true colors of many of these players. So we all know "why" the vocsl minority want this grind to be ridiculous again. But...for the sake of discussion. Would they like it if this time round they DIDN'T get lucky & they didn't see goid drops for over an entire year despite running content till there eyes bled like many other players experienced. (The forvever 29s/31 & etc. Those who never saw a yr1 Gjally or didn't get one till Xur resold it or who didn't get one to drop until the weeks/month before TTK.) Those who raided multiple times a week and got materials every-single-time. Etc. Would they still love the grind? Would the "excitement" of loot be true happiness or would it be a joy derived from abuse/starvation? What I have seen from RoI & AoT... Everyone needs to suffer & "earn" their way. Remove 3oC, quests, & etc. But when they have bad RNG, the game needs a patch or its a bug. There should be a "difficult" quest, and/or some system in place. Aka: It isn't acceptable. Bottomline: This question & question 2 will define & make or break the game.
8. Will microtransactions continue to encroach into the game? could we be facing a call of duty situation?
Yes. I expect either a Warframe like transaction system by the end of D2 Year 2. Mini-patches with Micros that allow deeper customization, recreation, etc (this makes devs ALOT OF BANK). Or worse... Items, Armor, Rerolls, etc. Either way it will be done in a manner where it is seen as ok but also needed.
9. Should we be expecting a demo or the beta/will the beta be indicative of the final product?
The beta is NEVER the final product. It comes damn close though. Beta tests look for holes/bugs in currently finished content, test servers, and etc. Many who beta test frequently were blown away with how D1 was quite literally the beta & no changes were done at release aside from Dinklebot's voice & some dialogue removal. That poor wizard... ...he came from the moon... And got removed... I hope D2s beta is like others & allows us to experience & test 1 of every content type.

What worries me is that they have to release it this year or lose a chunk of bungie to antivision, this leads me to believe it'll be rushed and have a whole bunch of bugs and other problems. I'm also pissed that they've made no attempt to introduce dedicated servers, peer to peer just means we'll have the same lag problems in multi-player that we have today, thanks for listening bungie, thanks a bunch, I'm totally not getting a ticket for this hype train to disappointments ville.

        • I think what most people forget is that between may and september is ~4 months. That won't be time for massive overhauls or additions. Gameplay reveal will give us a general idea, beta will be pretty close to the final version just with bugs and lacking some tweaks and polish and then it's out the door. So if it's thoroughly bad for the reveal it'll prob still be bad later.

          • they better add a new playable race. and there better be atleast 1 new class on launch and 2 new subclasses. also open planet patrols. the ability to fly my own dropship. combat in space involving my ship. plenty of planets to explore. more than just sparrows to use as transport. npcs having actual uses *cough speaker cough* companions that actually do stuff other than open doors. that's all i got for now.

            • 1. This isn't really a question. Or even a thought provoking comment. More of a general statement. 2. I hope so. If the changes to the crucible have shown one thing, it's that PvE is very much an active and important part of this game and should be treated with equal consideration when it comes to cause and effect for changes that affect both sides. 3. With the direction that they were going, the best way to flesh the character of the guardian out would be to change the game format almost entirely to a freedom of choice type game, instead of this "everything is on rails and cannot be changed" type path. This is an unlikely change to the game, so their best course of action would be to try and define the characters that our guardians are, there's still the freedom of choice as to what tools we use for the most part, but I would appreciate if they didn't try to "fix" every creative approach to the problems that they throw at us. If someone finds some way to do something in a way that is smarter, lower risk, and generally easier than being balls deep in a shitstorm of chaos, then let them do their thing. 4. I would hope so. Several games that have had very well polished methods for doing just that have done quite well for themselves. 5. Why is this #5? I mean, it's not an issue for me in the slightest. But, i would chose graphical quality over quantity of frames. But hey, if bungie can optimize the game to do both, then I've got no problem either way, as long as it runs and plays smoothly. 6. This one is actually more important than #6 when you make a big game that caters to a wide audience, you have to make sure you have a lot of content for everybody. This means, that you have to have enough options in PvP to keep it fresh and interesting with events (plural, as in, more than iron bananer once a month) and enough playlists to sate everyone's palate. (Aka, if people like mayhem then don't take it out of the rotation. until people get bored of it at least.) the same for PvE. For the love of all that is sugar coated and diabetic inducing do more with PvE than "here are some raids, you can do them once a week for stuff." You are on the right track with the weekly featured raids, but there still needs to be more for players than just raids. Queens wrath was a good event. Make more events similar to it. Heck, people would probably love it if you brought back the HoW patrol events for a week. The point is, keep the game fresh and interesting by always having something different than last week for players to sink their teeth into. 7. Hopefully not a bad one. Hopefully it will be consisted of a lot of different mini grinds for a lot of little rewards that add up to a big reward. Like mini quests for perks on a weapon, so that when you are done, you have a weapon that you made to suit your needs. 8. Hopefully these aren't a thing. Destiny does not need them. Destiny should not want for them. 9. Yes, there will be a beta. It will be out around the same time as the beta was for destiny. Likely, it will exist to further confirm the validity of the new concepts that destiny 2 will present. Since at this point, there's not a whole lot they could do to change the final product. Unless the beta absolutely sucks ass, then we can expect a huge delay in the release date and several canceled pre-orders as they try and put out the flaming turd that they left on the doorstep of the world. But this situation is pretty unlikely.

                • May 18th is my Birthday. Don't disappoint Bungie. 😜 Also, what is this I hear the old exotics will be in year 2? P,ease this is not what we want. We want ALL NEW CONTENT. that means no old year 1 exotics (weapons and armor) Hairstyles...faces, pretty much EVERYTHING should be new and fresh. Otherwise it's just another DLC for D1, and I for one won't buy if it isn't new all around.

This engine is so good, welcome to the new call of duty... the destiny series.... Even though it could have been the greatest mass effect game ever conceived if they had partnered with Bioware instead of activision...

                  • Question 8 has pretty much already been answered. The D2 Collector's Edition comes with a couple emotes, so it's pretty safe to assume you're going to be ponying up some extra cash for them again.
Unless they for some reason decide to take the price tag off of shit that should be free anyway
• I by and large agree with you on the key questions (although you missed out dedicated servers) Thing is, I don't expect answers to most of these before release. Some I don't think we'll be fully answered until we've played the game a great deal. The gameplay reveal will give us a taster of what's new, how it's evolved. It'll be quite interesting. The rest we'll see as it comes. I'd relax and enjoy it.

Exactly. 1. Dedicated Servers with a 150ms Ping maximum? 2. 60FPS? 3. 60/60Hz Tickrate? 4. A Netcode that doesn't promote lagging? 5. PvP/PvE weapon balance separation? 6. Open Worlds with more to explore? 7. An actual thilling and well written story that lasts for more than 10 hours? 8. No stupid imbalances? 9. Fast hotfixes/balance updates instead of broken mechanics that rule for half a year? 10. Ingame LFG without using an app? If any question will be answered with a "Nope", I'll not buy D2.

                            • 1. I agree 2. I hope so 3. both maybe? 4. Regardless of how the matchmaking works tons of players are still going to bitch about it 5. Don't care 6. If players don't burn through everything within the first 2 days like they did with this game then things will be fine. Everyone knows that most of the whiners about lack of content are the ones that put it in their PS4 or Xbone and you never hear from them until they play the hell out of the game. When they are done within a day - a week they then come on here and cry to Bungie about how there is so much lack of content in the game. 7. The grind will be more or less the same 8. Micro-Transactions will definitely be in the game as long as Activi$ion is in the picture 9. Good question

                              • Activision is going to be bumming hard when October hits and they have moved about a quarter of the units they have projected. At this point we all know that D2 will just be more of the same, sure it will be new, but the nerfs will continue the lag will continue, the staleness will continue.
