Do people not want to get better?

With these recent matchmaking changes people are complaining that they will be pubstomped every single game. I believe that pubstomping will happen but I don't think it's a bad thing because when you play people who are better than you their play style becomes familiar. Every time you lose you gain a bit of experience for the next time such as approaches, flanks, angles, etc. I have experienced this first hand in CS:GO. I used to suck but then I started to queue with my friend that was very high up on the ladder and I got used to playing against that caliber of skill so when I went back to my own rank I completely destroyed the enemies. All I can say is give it your best shot, take breaks when you have to, and play to win. Sorry for the wall of text. Edit: wow we're trending!

    • Well, wouldn't sbmm be the best way to get better? And it would apply to everyone, not just the "casuals"

      • No you don't, you get stomped, people leave and you get even more stomped, that is the actual reality of it. Having a slight difference in skill and raising your game in increments was fine. Getting trashed teaches you nothing, getting spawn camped teaches you nothing, nothing about angles of flanking or any of your other bullshit because it is being -blam!-ING spawn camped. People crying for CBMM are just a bunch of fat wankers that were bullied at school, children of divorce, that need epeen to calm their eating disorders.

        • Why is that PvP is the only place where people feel that real world conventional wisdom shouldn't or doesn't apply? When you learned math, did you start off with Algebra? Or Long Division? By CBMM logic, you would have. Instead, you started with SBMM - basic addition and progressively worked up to Long Division and then Algebra. When you signed up for sports, did you play with other kids your age, or did you play in a league where all the grades played on the same team? Or a school where Jr Varsity played Varsity? By CBMM logic, you would have. Instead, you were placed by SBMM - playing with kids your age so you could use the basics you've learned and even gain confidence as you were able to keep pace with the competition. As you aged and improved, the competition did as well, driving you to get better. But CBMM makes you better because you're facing tougher opponents! Perhaps. But there is an upper limit to this philosophy. You can learn more advanced tactic and strategies, but if you lack the skill necessary for that particular move, you won't be able to do it and most likely frustrate yourself in the process. And if you happen to be able to emulate certain strategies, have you learned why they do it? Probably not. If you don't know why you're doing something a particular way, you're not really learning. So next time you suggest CBMM is the way for people to improve, ask yourself a couple questions first: *If I was to learn to play an instrument, would I start with Middle C, or just start with Beethoven and figure out the rest as I go? *If I was to learn Boxing, would I start with learning how to stand and jab, or should I just step in the ring with the Welter weight champ and learn as I go?

Can't get better when you spend more time in the death screen waiting that 10 seconds to respawn then actually playing. Just saying.

              • It depends on the skill gap. If you are playing people so far out of your league that you can barely get a kill and get absolutely annihilated what are you going to take from that?

              • No getting your ass kicked match after match as a casual player is not fun or teaching what so ever... As a average casual player who struggles to hold a 1.1 kd Im pretty sure it's bullshit being matched against 2.8 kd players (which has happened over the last couple days multiple times) .. Not fun at all and only ruins the game for us last few people that actually still play this shit fest

I hear you and I take your advice. So tomorrow I am going to challenge this dude https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Parker_(boxer) and even though I am not at his skill level but maybe I'll improve and then some day I'll be a champion just like him... Just wish me luck guys! The OP has given a new meaning to my life!

People generally don't become better by being continually pubstomped that moreso causes a drop in players and increased match bailing... they get better by playing those of a similar skill level to them then when they improve they progressively play better and better players.

                • Good post. No, people are content with a lack of challenge. Not sure if it's about the loot, the k/d, or personal insecurities but people lose their shit when they start seeing themselves go negative. Same kinda people would buy Superduty Ford 350's to feel better about their little weiners. Lol, if you're bad, practice. Don't instantly stop playing and take to the forums, where nobody gives a damn about your luck. Don't beg for an easier game. If you can't keep up, you're either getting old with those reflexes or were never great initially.

                  • I don't mind getting my butt kicked by better players as long as I'm not getting my butt kicked because another player isn't taking damage. Not a big crucible guy but my biggest gripe with sbmm was I never knew if I was getting better or not. Kinda felt like I was treading water. At least when I play better players I can try to learn from what they did right and I did wrong to get better. I'm still getting 1-2 red bar warriors almost every game which is frustrating because for the majority of the other players the connections seem fine. Kinda hard to stop the spark runner when he goes into "flash" mode ya know.

Getting pub stomped generally happens when you come up against fireteams . Whether CBMM or SBMM, matchmaking will rarely find enough skillfull players in time limit to counter a strong fireteam. It's just the way it is.

                  • Regardless of the matchmaking system, I like a fair challenge. I don't need to rack up 30 kills with a 3.0 k/d. But in my experience I either do really good, or really bad and in another case the difference in team strength is just making it impossible. I'd say that 1 out 10 lobbies I get into give me a feeling of equal competition. I also find these games to be a lot more fun. I never really had a feeling I was playing in a SBMM system. The only thing which made me improve was the removal of crutches like thorn.

                      • In short no. I want come home after work and play a game to unwind for a bit. I am average (1.1 KD across my characters), I have been to the light house. I also routinely get skunked in trials playing against carries and recoveries. Mainly I just want to have a bit of fun. There are far more important things in life to improve at.

Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I lost 8 out of 8 of my latest iron banner matches. 2 of them ended from the mercy rule (one I believe was 10 to 1 against us, but I'd have to check my screenshot again. At least 8 or 9 to 1). A few other defeats were 2 to 1 and we had two very close defeats. I know it's not just me because I was in the top of my team twice and in various places the other matches, a couple near the bottom admittedly but there's no way I'm causing 100% defeats. One game for the opening minutes, our number 1 was lower than their lowest person. Luck seems to play a much bigger factor now.

                          • Never cared for sbmm just wanted to play and kill other guardians. Some games I'm pretty much god killing everything in my way and other games I'm lowly thrash but that's life man.

                          • I like what they are saying about the changes but in my admittedly limited experience after the change went into effect I have noticed more red bars than I was seeing earlier in the week. This could be just bad luck, after all it's a pretty small sample size, time will tell. I have no problem matching up against people above my skill, losing to better players doesn't bother me, losing to immortal red bars who just won't die and can teleport around the map is very annoying and unfortunately can still happen with the new matchmaking settings. Hopefully the connections will turn out to be better overall, I don't think we will really be able to judge until after the Dawning is over and we are back to the core player base.
