Today I pose a question to you! How do you feel about raid matchmaking? Are we fine how we are now? Or would it be a great improvement?
LETS DEBATE:
Pro Matchmaking
Adding matchmaking to the raids will allow for more players to participate in them. No longer will you be forced to use an LFG site or recruitment threads if you don't have any friends online. Just launch the activity and Walla you are in a full fire team!
While some would argue that some people would get matched with lower light levels or just players who don't know what to do, this offers for players to teach others each encounter. This would add to the social aspect of the raids even more! And hey, if you still wanted to go on LFG, you can! Nobody is stopping you.
If you think the new raids would be too hard, that's okay. We could have matchmaking for VoG and CE but not Kings Fall, because those raids are much lower light level. That way newer players can run through those old raids for the first time much more easily, or old players can do the same just for fun. Problem Solved
Con Matchmaking
Matchmaking for raids is a terrible idea! This would lead to more frustration than ever. People with very low light levels, inexperienced players, people instantly leaving, players with no mic, these are the players you will be getting matched up with, and the list just goes on and on. Adding a matchmaking system is a waste of Bungies time. With half the player base on LFG and the other half raid matchmaking, wait times will be longer than ever. And when you finally do get a match, people could purposefully troll or go AFK with no one to kick them.
How do you expect checkpoints to work? If I have Golgoroth cp , will I only get matched with people at Golgoroth? If so, wait times will be even longer. If not, I might lose my checkpoint and miss out on the Golgoroth loot I still needed to get.
Getting through a strike with Randoms is hard enough, doing a raid with Randoms would be near impossible.
So what do you think? Should raid matchmaking be a thing or not? What other topics are worthy of a Debate?
EDIT: Wow, glad to see everyone voicing there opinions in the comments. This post has gotten more love than I expected. Fun to read these comments.

As long as there's still someone in charge to kick the AFKers and useless twats.
-
The only thing I can point to SABER strike. Sometimes people you find in matchmaking are so incompetent you can't even get past the warsat. Why would you want that for the hardest content in the game?
-
As long as the match making can be turned off. I dont want to get auto matchmade with some fools who just want to do it but refuse to use a mic or communicate in any way and just cause wipe after wipe. I also dont want some kid who is the "required" light lvl with half his weapons being some shitty blues that dont do shit
-
PEOPLE ARE ASSHOLES. RAIDS SHOULD NEVER HAVE MATCHMAKING EVER
-
Yes, it should be introduced. Just make it optional. You can turn it off if you dont want randoms. And if possible make it so people have to have a mic connected . Destiny requires a social aspect to work best but bungie has just totally ignored it despite forcing people to group up, which forced people to create lfg. Something like letting players set a visible message in game so other players could see they want to do raids etc while in game would be nice too.
-
No no no no no no freeking mm! Never no I cannot see how this could improve the raid experience for anyone, people it will not work for a dozen reasons, look at all the problems with mm in PvP let's bring them into the raid shall we bunige!
-
I think the option should be there for everyone to get the chance to raid. People will still be able to form their owns fireteams if they wish. It won't affect private fireteams in anyway, nothing will change for people who have dedicated raid groups... so why would anyone destiny player be against it? This is good thing, it will bring more gamers to Destiny which this games is in desperate need of. This would be a good move in the right directon. Elites can still have their elite raid groups and the rest of the destiny community can experience a raid. Win for everyone.
-
Ok guys here is my excellent plan! Only crotas end normal will have matchmaking, and only from 5:16am. To 5:48 am. Pacific island time on the first Tuesday of the month and every seventh Thursday! Don't you agree!

Edited by ChromaCat: 8/29/2016 12:37:48 AMDestiny would benefit from a system that allows any raids besides the most current to have matchmaking. This makes sure the newest raid still needs premade teams and/or people who know what they are doing while allowing access to the older raids to anybody willing to try. This could be a solution to the elitism problem Destiny seems to have surrounding raid content as well as hopefully eliminating peoples need to feel they need to lie about their experince with a raid in order to even join one. If Destiny had a system that alerted the party that someone is running a raid for the first time or gave bonus' for including a first time player, this could also help create a fair raid matchmaking system that everyone could benefit from.
-
The whole recruitment section of bungie.net needs to be introduced in the game.
-
It's obvious the raids need matchmaking. I can't believe this is even a debate.
-
The poll👀

I think the new raid matchmaking will be fine. It's releasing alongside private matchmaking for crucible, so I think Bungie needed a way to prevent randoms from joining a private group in raids before they could release raid matchmaking. Soooo yeah, private and public raids SHOULD be available. If not, then Bungee has made yet another faulty mistake. If raid matchmaking is a huge flop, they probably block it until they can patch it anyway. Raids are their biggest asset in Destiny right now, so I doubt they're going to jack up this chance.
-
Personally i just don't see anything wrong with optional matchmaking. If you got your own crew to raid with, then matchmaking will not hurt you in any way, unless bungie doesn't implement a way to keep random players from randomly joining in a raid if a party member accidently lagged or dropped out of a manually made team. And yes people will argue "oh it'll just have afkers or silent playets, low levels, etc" but for those that choose to matchmake, they'll know what they're getting into. At least with matchmaking they'll have a chance to attempt a raid without the hassle of going through LFG, messaging people, being denied if you arent using this set up, etc. The old days of must have Gally. Seriously there is nothing wrong with options for the players. You wanna use LFG, cool. Wanna use matchmaking, cool. Wanna bring your own friends/clan mates, cool. It just baffles me how people can't seem to grasp that.
-
if someone auto joins the raid after the a player leaves "while searching for a new one on the Forums , LFG sites" , and i can't boot the new person ....... Houston we have a serious problem.
-
There's so many reason why it shouldn't but what would worrys me most if it did happen is to many people would say it's to hard then it gets made easy just like night falls did, just like getting your light up did, just like iron banner bountys are going to, just like normal bountys have in a way. Just like getting exotics did. So I'm strongly against this.

Edited by Freaky Scary: 8/29/2016 1:34:53 AMOptional Matchmaking similar to The Division. You can control / start a lobby and if low light level / no mic joins you have option to remove them. You can also keep it private too or just go in the pool to match with whoever
-
If there is match making there should be a team leader to kick ppl that aren't helpful
-
At first I said no raids should. Then I realized it wouldn't really change much. Most people would still utilize recruitment to get fireteams.
-
No random matchmaking would be horrible, imagine trying to do hard mode oryx with 6 uncoordinated guardians. I say no. But what needs to happen is an in game notice board/lfg at the tower, so you can post your needs and requirements and which you can directly jump straight into the fire team and look at the team members stats from the post, without using about 6 3rd party sites and apps. But hey prob never happen, we don't all get what we want
-
dont forget the nerf posts! noobs who suck\refuse to be properly prepaired (too low LL, dont have mic, bad oadout\sublass [strikers and voidwalkers and bladedancers honestly have no place in KF].) will innevitably come to the forums to female-dog about how the raid is too hard! i like my raid challenging ty!
-
Sure. Let's cordon off all of the lazy people and place them in a single area where they can convince themselves that struggling to play a team based activity with group of completely random, borderline autistic entitled manchildren is fun. The rest of us will be off doing the same thing but with a group of pre selected borderline autistic entitled sweaty nerds.
-
Edited by Hephsters: 8/29/2016 1:04:14 AMI don't know if this has already been said but I think the best way might be to have an option that is similar to the lfg sites built into the game. Then a fireteam leader can post their advert and have the spots auto filled by people who are qued up. Leader can set criteria ie. Mic, certain light lvl etc and only those who meet criteria get in. Leader still has option to kick if he gets a troll.
-
Seriously stop with these posts
-
Youre missing a con. If matchmaking is made optional, and I go into a raid with a full fireteam but one of us gets dropped by accident, what are the chances that the game would automatically replace whoever was dropped with a random? I've nothing against randoms or raid matchmaking in general, but there should be a decently detailed settings menu before going into the raid. And I suppose light level settings wouldn't be bad if they were set in reasonable increments like 290< 300< 310< 320< Etc As well as a setting for microphone required or optional I won't go off on experience in raid or number of completions but I think people need to step off the high horse and be willing to teach. I also think those in need of being taught should speak up about not knowing what to do instead of being quiet and trying to blame others if amd when something goes wrong. Lastly on the optional matchmaking side I think there should be a vote option for kicking people and that option should be on a timer. So you won't have a fireteam of 3 or 4 steadily rotating people out just because they think its funny, It should be on a timer of 20-25 minutes. So if you go in with a pre-made full fireteam then there is a fireteam leader, but if you have a partial team and use the matchmaking feature there is no fireteam leader, everything is up to a vote.

This is one of the main reasons I've come back to Destiny after a while on the division. The division lets you matchmake everything and all that leads to is hours of frustration and achieving nothing. so much to the point that I'm just going to solo everything which was fine till the update were this was just not possible anymore . I think bungie hit this well by saying without matchmakeing they can presume the player has invested time in getting into An activity and that all players will be talking. Instead of running round like headless chickens and achieving nothing. All in all if it requires com's then matchmaking is a bad idea
