Raid Matchmaking: THE DEBATE

All Raids should have matchmaking

Old Raids should have matchmaking

No Raids should have matchmaking

Today I pose a question to you! How do you feel about raid matchmaking? Are we fine how we are now? Or would it be a great improvement? LETS DEBATE: Pro Matchmaking Adding matchmaking to the raids will allow for more players to participate in them. No longer will you be forced to use an LFG site or recruitment threads if you don't have any friends online. Just launch the activity and Walla you are in a full fire team! While some would argue that some people would get matched with lower light levels or just players who don't know what to do, this offers for players to teach others each encounter. This would add to the social aspect of the raids even more! And hey, if you still wanted to go on LFG, you can! Nobody is stopping you. If you think the new raids would be too hard, that's okay. We could have matchmaking for VoG and CE but not Kings Fall, because those raids are much lower light level. That way newer players can run through those old raids for the first time much more easily, or old players can do the same just for fun. Problem Solved Con Matchmaking Matchmaking for raids is a terrible idea! This would lead to more frustration than ever. People with very low light levels, inexperienced players, people instantly leaving, players with no mic, these are the players you will be getting matched up with, and the list just goes on and on. Adding a matchmaking system is a waste of Bungies time. With half the player base on LFG and the other half raid matchmaking, wait times will be longer than ever. And when you finally do get a match, people could purposefully troll or go AFK with no one to kick them. How do you expect checkpoints to work? If I have Golgoroth cp , will I only get matched with people at Golgoroth? If so, wait times will be even longer. If not, I might lose my checkpoint and miss out on the Golgoroth loot I still needed to get. Getting through a strike with Randoms is hard enough, doing a raid with Randoms would be near impossible. So what do you think? Should raid matchmaking be a thing or not? What other topics are worthy of a Debate? EDIT: Wow, glad to see everyone voicing there opinions in the comments. This post has gotten more love than I expected. Fun to read these comments.

DestinyLfg.com is your matchmaking. If you moan the website is crap and you get ppl who leave or kick you half way through. Matchmaking won't be any different. At least with destinylfg.com you know what light lvl ppl your gonna get or if they've done the raid and have the right weapons. Matchmaking is a stupid idea for lazy ppl hoping to be carried. There is no reason not to use destinylfg.com So with matchmakimg what happens when your half way through the raid and someone leaves! Will it leave you with 5 for the rest or will it try matchmake someone. Who will just leave straight away after finding your half way through the raid! It just won't work

    • I don't see how in game matchmaking is any different than lfg, in the sense of what it produces you're going to get just as random a sample as lfg invites matchmaking is just easier if they suck balls, kick them...There's 100s of 1000s of people playing this game, you'll get a decent person fairly quickly

This debate makes no sense to me and never has. Matchmade raiding is exactly the same as lfg or the100.io, it would just be quicker and more convenient. If you don't want to do it that's fine, get a team or lfg it.

        • Where is 'optional matchmaking'?

        • There should be matchmaking for "lite" versions of raids that can be completed with minimal to no communication for lesser rewards. It could be beneficial as a primer for novices who are not confident enough to join a raid team. Examples: During the Templar fight, oracles do not mark you for negation but must still be wiped out before damaging the boss. During the bridge checkpoint in Crota's End, the bridge can be built once and doesn't disappear if players step off the plates. During the sisters, all pathways are formed properly regardless of the order they're stepped on. Just some suggestions--I'm sure Bungie can come up with better ideas.

          • If raid matchmaking ever gets implemented, which I hope not tbh, I hope bungie releases the percentage of match made raids that complete the entire raid with their original fire team.... It would be interesting to say the least lol.

          • This raid is more about shooting stuff rather than mechanics so randoms wont be so bad. Key word: Optional

            • Although I agree with most of the cons in theory; If the matchmade group makes ANY progress, it is infinitely better than not being able to even attempt it. I will deal with some frustration along the way, allow me the option to choose though.

            • Everything in the game should have optional matchmaking. That way, no one is forced to use it but those that want/need to can. Still don't understand why Challenge of Elders doesn't have matchmaking. Friend list is quiet at the moment but was still ridiculously easy with just 2 of us and me on a level 310 alt account...

            • I think people need to look at the reasons why Bungie hasn't already implemented matchmaking in its endgame content. It's a design choice not something they just forgot to implement. Now I agree a finding group system should be in definitely be in the game. So many people don't even try to find a group because they don't even know how to. My idea would be a message board in a social space, which is similar to what this site offers. Step 1: Host creates a post with what he wants from the raid and how many players he needs to the message board. Step 2: People that are interested sign up to a list with between 1-15 spots. (The reason for extra spots is so host can pick and choose players from list) Step 3: Host has names of players interested and can inspect them and invite straight from the list.

            • Optional matchmaking should have bin in this game from the start. If you get frustrated quickly you shouldnt play games at all. Its Just a game. Bin playing this game from day one, most of my friends left this game a long time ago. Did Kings Fall once, took forever, but thats fine, had a blast. The word optional is hard to understand for a lot of players, its a choice you make thats all there is to it. I am tired of all the elitist crap in this game, and Bungie feeds it to them.

            • It's not even a debate. 1, The raids require mechanics that are too difficult to achieve with random people who don't use a microphone. 2, Raiding requires a solid time investment. You'll have people dropping in and out constantly or randomly going AFK. 3, The number of complaint posts with the above 2 reasons would -blam!-ing sky rocket, making an even bigger cluster -blam!- in the normal and feedback forums. Use a website to find a dedicated group and stop being anti social about it.

              •
Let the cons know why they are wrong
Well, they kind of can't. Nobody in their right mind could think matchmaking for raids is a good idea.

              • They should add optional matchmaking for everything but only if it's optional if not, then they should leave it alone.

              • I think matchmaking for the new raids is a terrible idea. But matchmaking for the old raids will be a great tool for newer players to learn the mechanics and offer sherpas the chance to teach them without having to struggle to set up a full team of new players. Players aside from the sherpas aren't too willing to help out so filling up a fireteam of new players is helpful.

                • I have said it before, do it. Now there is a higher chance of the group being a failure, but there are those one in a few groups that can pull it off. It would give more incentive for some youtubers to make "more" raid guides for the community. Last I checked because I was dragged into one, long story nvm that. There is a raid guide over 1 hour long! Like wtf? Now why can't the guides be chopped up, a video per boss explaining the raid mechanics to prevent a wipe. The other video(s) explaining the in between on how to get there. It wouldn't hurt if someone is jumping in to a raid matchmaking to teach others a few new things, it sure as hell would be an optional thing as players can still stick to their lfg and their #recruit and on site groups.

                • People want we don't have cause their imaginations make it perfect in form and function. Yet forget about those times they played Crucible and people left games early. Or didn't follow objectives. Arguments over who's plan should be used. Frustrations arising when Raid sections aren't completed in well enough time. I'm at the point now that people want it so badly that I'm like, "just give it to them". I won't ever use it. I just don't want to hear the complaints about how bad the randoms are and how developers should implement mechanics to force them to play fairly.

                • I wouldn't use it so I don't care either way. That said, if they were to add it I can only really see matchmaking for normal mode. That way an inexperienced raider could get experience and possibly make some friends that they can take with them to hard mode.

                  • I'm in the mind of you should make your own teams for Raids, and the Skolas PoE. The potential for crap is so high with matchmaking, I want to thank Bungie for not including it. Creating your own teams keep you more invested in the team, so you would be more likely to stick it out. That does not mean no one has ever left a team, but it does reduce the likelihood of it happening once trouble start sprouting. In most other games with raid-like encounters, you can usually power through the entire thing. But Destiny Raids has mechanics that are instant fails if you do not complete them properly. In all honesty, a large portion of those asking for it, aren't the people who are smart enough to know not to use it.
