Raid Matchmaking: THE DEBATE

All Raids should have matchmaking

Old Raids should have matchmaking

No Raids should have matchmaking

Today I pose a question to you! How do you feel about raid matchmaking? Are we fine how we are now? Or would it be a great improvement? LETS DEBATE: Pro Matchmaking Adding matchmaking to the raids will allow for more players to participate in them. No longer will you be forced to use an LFG site or recruitment threads if you don't have any friends online. Just launch the activity and Walla you are in a full fire team! While some would argue that some people would get matched with lower light levels or just players who don't know what to do, this offers for players to teach others each encounter. This would add to the social aspect of the raids even more! And hey, if you still wanted to go on LFG, you can! Nobody is stopping you. If you think the new raids would be too hard, that's okay. We could have matchmaking for VoG and CE but not Kings Fall, because those raids are much lower light level. That way newer players can run through those old raids for the first time much more easily, or old players can do the same just for fun. Problem Solved Con Matchmaking Matchmaking for raids is a terrible idea! This would lead to more frustration than ever. People with very low light levels, inexperienced players, people instantly leaving, players with no mic, these are the players you will be getting matched up with, and the list just goes on and on. Adding a matchmaking system is a waste of Bungies time. With half the player base on LFG and the other half raid matchmaking, wait times will be longer than ever. And when you finally do get a match, people could purposefully troll or go AFK with no one to kick them. How do you expect checkpoints to work? If I have Golgoroth cp , will I only get matched with people at Golgoroth? If so, wait times will be even longer. If not, I might lose my checkpoint and miss out on the Golgoroth loot I still needed to get. Getting through a strike with Randoms is hard enough, doing a raid with Randoms would be near impossible. So what do you think? Should raid matchmaking be a thing or not? What other topics are worthy of a Debate? EDIT: Wow, glad to see everyone voicing there opinions in the comments. This post has gotten more love than I expected. Fun to read these comments.

    • Matchmaking in raids would lead to randumbs idling or hiding and trying to leech rewards. Either that or the "No mic" brigade crashing in and mechanics wiping the team repeatedly. It wouldn't be fun.

    • They should have it, but it should be optional

    • Play with randoms instantly or leave the game and go to a 3rd party to recruit randoms with elitist standards? Hmm Btw Matchmaking worked great in The Division. Made the game a much more enjoyable experience.

      • Matchmaking would be a mistake for raids imo. It takes tons of communication how could we know if someone has a mic? Not saying it's impossible for someone with no mic to run a raid but let that be up to the other 5 to play with them.

      • If it's optional you'd be moron to say no, it will not effect you...fk off. Plus experience is crucial in raids, you could gain the experience you need to join a group.

      • I like the idea. It makes raids more accessible to players outside of a clan, or who mostly play solo. As long as the more hardcore players have a way of making their fireteam private if they so choose then I don't really see a downside. Basically as long as matchmaking isn't mandatory for the raid, and is merely an easy option I am all for it

I saw this implemented on SWTOR it failed: EA servers collapsed after a few hours live though they Patched it by reducing teams from 16 to 8 to reduce server usage, the wait time for matchmaking to find a team of 8 was between 2-3 hours just so you could hop in a raid with: the one with lag, the one who doesn't communicates and clearly has no idea what he's doing, the one who refuses to do/learn mechanics, the one who "sorry need to go", the one who gets angry at the newbs and leaves, the one who probably went AFK after 2.30 hours in queue, etc The hardcore raiders stood out of matchmaking and kept using LFG The casuals raiders, using matchmaking joining teams that had no idea of what to do; hence had no way to do them resulting in frustration After 2 years: causals being so frustrated with raids they never joined even if invited by hardcore teams, and hardcore teams had done then so many times they stopped and moved on (here's why I'm on destiny now) Result, today no one does any raid in the game cause casuals still stigmatized by frustration, Sherpas are mostly gone
at least on the 2 servers I used to play
Bioware then focused on making the game more of a solo game than multiplayer...
Stupid Knights of the fallen empire.
maybe it won't spiral down on Destiny as it did on SWTOR but I rather having the devs creating more content or doing any other activity than implementing a system that will just work for nothing

            • I think they should just go ahead and add it in. If it fails, they know not to use it in Destiny 2. If they don't add it, this debate will probably never end.

              • Can we have an option for in game LFG? Something where raid "leaders" can implement some criteria for the raid aka, checkpoints, light level, etc. Then, maybe we can go one step further and que up after the criteria is in place. The wait times might be long, but in theory no longer than current LfG.

I'm all for it...but anyone thinking it's going to be some cure-all for the guys who can't get a team together is kidding themselves. I'll simply differ to The Division's match-made Incursions... It will create more frustration for those who couldn't raid before...due to them most likely being stuck on a segment for hours on end with people coming and going constantly.

              • You should only do raids with YOUR FRIENDS! Don't have any friends? THEN MAKE SOME. I'm lucky enough to have a full raid team of really close friends that I grew up with. I also have another full raid team and more friends I've met just playing destiny from the beginning. Both teams I do excellent with each week that's why I'm 330+ on all my accounts. Like I said if you don't either know them, or have met them in some sort of way, then you shouldn't raid with them. It's a clear indication you won't succeed. #Facts

                • Sure, but make it optional. After a month, very few players will continue to use it. I still don't understand why people can't spend a couple minutes using one of the many websites currently available to find raid groups.

                • Having completed a few of the raids, it is mandatory to have comms... I can't remember a single "match made" activity where I was matched up with randoms that actually had or used their mic. I can't imagine trying to complete a raid with anyone that did not use their mic - period... That said, I'd like to see an easier method of finding a party to join the activity/raid...

I think this whole thing, need to go back to basic communication A general chat ... Destiny is a community let them connect easier, You can start with that ... Wow did it 10 years ago..

                  • In game LFG. Best way forwards. Being able to stipulate you want a mic, the tone of the group and choose between being fireteam lead or member isnt MM. Its LFG. Lets just get that straight. Straight up random matchmaking would be catastrophically unenjoyable. What is the point of giving people the worst possible impression and turning them off ever giving raids a real go? What? And before anyone pipes up with "Oh well if it doesnt effect you..." just stop. Please. Stop that. Its not about MY experience, its not about preserving some mythical elitist raiding freemason club that the saltier folk among us seem to think exists, its about me wanting everyone to have the best possible experience of raiding. And thats not letting them walk facefirst into a frustrating disaster.

                    • I'm a year one player and I've heard this since VoG, "Bungie, please put matchmaking in raids" . Now with the new DLC coming out I'm seeing the same wave of people crying about not having matchmaking. Here's what I have to say to those people who think it's a good idea: Go play The Division and tell me how fun it is matchmaking for end-game content, like an Incursion. (Spoiler Alert: it's f**king awful) Matchmaking as a whole is flawed. The raid needs communication otherwise you're going to fail every time. Its hard enough getting matched with two people in a strike and then actually doing anything. Can you imagine that same result in a raid?? Talk about "rage quitting". In game LFG, absolutely. Raid Matchmaking, he'll no!!

                    • It need matchmaking. Crappy matches or not. I quit playing at one point because I get tired of spending and hour or so just to try to find a group like today I had four hours to play before I go pick up my children from school. You think I found a group to play with? Of course not. Everyone wants people to be 335 light to even join the group. So in my opinion there needs to be matchmaking because at least at that point I wouldn't be sitting here for hours on my phone watching my ship float in orbit. Usually the game gets shit off before I get a group or I get tired of looking and do strikes.
