The First Curse: A few FACTS that players (not Bungie) need to realize about it.

When it comes to The First Curse, I agree that it needs tuning, but most people are saying things about it that aren't true. That doesn't help your case with Bungie. So here are some solid facts about The First Curse: 1. It has more ammo than Timur's Last and Ill Will. Both of which share the First Curse's stats and both of which hit like trucks. First curse has one more round, allowing for 11 shots against a boss, and the death of 8-11 enemies at a faster rate than an auto rifle because it's one bullet for one enemy when you're talking about tier 1. I do it all the time. 2. The base range of the weapon is medium for a hand cannon. The effective range is the longest of any hand cannon. At 290, this gun STILL puts out higher damage than my 293 Ace of Spades and my 295 Hawkmoon at medium to longer rangers. Hawkmoon not including Luck in the Chamber and Ace in the Hole. Combined with the First Curse perk, it's practically a scoutcannon. Bungie had to be careful with that kind of advantage. 3. The Dead Eye perk combined with the +2 agility gives it the best mobility of any primary outside of the The Last Word. I don't think that was an accident on Bungie's part, but I actually saw a post claiming this gun has limited mobility. Really? 4. It has ridiculous target acquisition. It has to be up there with the highest. I spend most of my time with The Last Word, and this gun locks on. I can move all over the place and keep my opponent in my sights. I suck at Crucible and if I can get 13 kills using just this weapon with no super, and no heavy, it def doesn't flat out suck. Need fixes: This gun could become OP fast if Bungie makes the wrong tweaks. It needs three things though without a doubt: 1. It fires blanks at times. That's just flat out broken.I"m well within short-medium range and nothing. No damage. Nada. 2. Buff the accuracy. Range is useless if your shots won't connect. Damage fall off is so huge now it would be okay to give this gun the old handcannon accuracy and even zoom 3. The First Curse Perk needs to activate on hit not kill. That's the equivalent of a damage boost in many situations, and it will help with boss fights. It won't make the gun op in Crucible. I can explain, but I don't have time to explain because I'm tired. Players need to keep the first list in mind when arguing for this weapon. The second list is for Bungie. I'm as passionate about this weapon as I was about The Last Word. I really enjoy them both. The Last Word is the reason I kept playing long after I exhausted the content. It even made me enjoy PvP when that was never my thing. Yes I'm a fanboy, but I started as n00b who just enjoys the programing on these weapons and got better with them. Sometimes, that's actually what's needed too. Edit: Forgot this tidbit. It needs a different sound. Give it the same sound as its sister, but with more of a boom and less pow. Edit: now that im rested im gonna explain. Once at a certain rang, this gun is effected by the HC damage drop off. That means it roughly does the damage of a scout rifle to the body. Maybe a little more, but it only has 8 in the mag. Very slow firerate, and takes 3 headshots to kill at close range, so more at scout range. Id bet that allowing the first curse perk to activate on hit would not infringe on a scout rifles strength at all and it would give the First Curse the boost it needs to nudge it a little further into exotic territory.

      I definitely agree with the first curse activating on hit, but I also think that bungie should increase the range just a little bit, that might help out with the shots that are glitchy and don't deal damage to an enemy that you clearly should have hit. P.S. Very nice post, I think that this may help bungie out a lot, you should do more of these.

      • The accuracy cone plus the range drop off makes all hand cannons really inconsistent now and it's even worse with slow firing ones when every shot is more important

        • My major complaint about first curse is the god awful HUGE dot that makes its sight. It's an ADS HC with decent range... with a sight that is absolutely counterproductive to everything it's supposed to be.

          • I TRIED to like this gun. It now has a home in my vault. Its range and accuracy really aren't as impressive as I'd hoped, my ace of spades has better stats. What really kills this gun for me however is its god awful slow as hell reload. With its fast reload perk it is still slow, even with that AND gauntlets that help hand cannon reload it is still far too slow. Like I said, into the vault it goes.

            • I love this weapon, pretty much agree with you on the things people forget. It has 100 aim assist. It increases your speed while ADS and with lightweight even more. My best game with it was a 24 kills, 2.0 k/d using only The First Curse and i'm an average player. Having said this, there are some things that would make it feel more like an exotic. The first, like you said, is rapid fire accuracy. It's a handcannons problem, not a first curse problem. The range nerf didn't bother me, the rng accuracy does. The First Curse Perk...Either the weapon should have more bullets or it should be a kill and not a precision kill. Or instead of the triple tap, bullets should come back to the mag with a kill, sorta like the bad juju. Either that or make the first curse perk a two hit kill when activated with a precision kill, like it is now. The reload. With such a long reload time, even when using gaunlets that speed up the HC reload time, it just takes too damn long. Either speed up the reload or replace triple tap with outlaw or, even better, spary and play. All handcannons need its accuracy back, particularly on rapid fire. Handcannons, Pulses, scouts and autorifles should all be on the same level, their differences should be situational. Specials should be less important in pvp. Want range? Grab a scout. Middle range? Pulses and Handcannons. Short range should belong to autorifles, in a last word sort of way, not as much but you get what i mean. Anyways, if bungie just brings the hc accuracy back, i´ll be glad :D

              • Imprecation seems to fire blanks as well. As does The Vanity and Hawkmoon. I'm trying to complete the Quest line for The First Curse, and feel like I've been robbed by said blanks, those shots you KNEW would hit and didn't register, which in turn has kept me from competion thus far.

                  • I agree. BTW one small buff I had in mind would be that the first curse has aggressive ballistics. That would max impact so you could consistently two shot head shot kill, but you would fire slow enough that it isn't OP. You would lose to a hawkmoon it 1 of the magic bullets procked for a faster two shot head shot. Seems fair to me.

                      • It's aim assist is 90. The highest amongst hand cannons. It shares that with the elevator. Also it now has the slowest ttk in the crucible. A whole second to kill a player with crits.

                          Currently, I can never see myself using my exotic slot for this weapon. There are just much better choices currently. With that I agree with you. A buff is needed, but not to the extent when it becomes more of a scout rifle. It would be nice if you didn't lose the first curse perk if you switch weapons. That isn't even in the tool tip. Zhalo and Juju are better for trash mobs, which is what this weapon appears to be designed for.

                          • Yep, I have found that many guns shoot blanks. Definitely a glitch. Of course, they should fix Deej too, as he seems to shoot more blanks that any of the guns, imo at least.

                            I do not disagree with you. The problem is it isn't shooting blanks. The fall off is so extreme the bullets cone and veer in random direction. Your cross hairs could be at exactly head level, the dot could even get the red dot inside of it and bullets will still choose a random flight pattern. I've been saying this about hand cannons since day one of the patch. There is an rng to accuracy of hand cannons. Some are effected more then others. But the hit detection is garbage. (Not limited to hand cannons. Melees, and on a more rare occasion sniper rifles. Along with the rest of meta, but it doesn't happen enough with most weapons I wasn't sure if it was worth mentioning) but it all comes full circle. This game needs better hit detection. If it did your number 1 wouldn't be nearly an issue. (The false accuracy would still be)

                            • I feel like it has tlw's ads glitch, but in a bad way, where deadeye sometimes won't trigger when ads for a few seconds. That would be the best explanation for the one pointless bullet

                              • No, my Timurs lash and I'll will had way more range and still to this day are more effective. I love the high impact handcannons. I thought first curse would be the legendary version of. Those both. But it's not. Both my ill will and Timurs perform better. Both have better gunsights and accuracy than the first curse. I like to have rear and front sight guides as the single holographic dot is inaccurate as -blam!-.

                                  • I think all hand cannons need an accuracy boost and a little more in the mag, maybe a SLIGHT increase to range Hawkmoon aside. Autos are pretty weak too. . .

                                      • I don't know if they repeated the Necrochasm mistake here once again. Maybe the original design was ok for that gun, but then one of their weapon tuning updates hit it hard before the gun was even in the game.

                                          • I do like this gun. Im a hand cannon lover and its pretty solid. The high inpact is really nice and ot handles very well. With the last word being overnerfed it makes for a good weapon. It could use a little tweaking, i agree. I do like ace of spades a little more though And hawkmoon is a litte better for pvp. But overall a fun weapon
