New mark system is poor don't bottleneck

Post patch edit: I will be recording my playtime and marks earned to try and gauge how much playtime is needed to collect marks regularly, but my first impressions are mark earning is too limited and an artificial playtime lengthener. Too few things give you a reasonable number for time invested while too many thins cost a late amount of marks. (Not to mention how bad the infusion exchange rate is as well). The cap won't be a critical issue because earning is so limited but that's not the solution. Allow us to earn marks more easily and make the cap 350 to 400 to be able to buy two things and have some wiggle room at the cap Edit: summary: raise the mark cap so I don't have the same problem I have with glimmer. Having to find things to buy every day instead of saving for iron banner. I don't want to buy things all the time I want to save and buy in bulk so I can plan better. Don't foster poor spending habits and force me to grind on time crunches. 600 or 400 would be fine. I just want to be able to not have to go to the tower all the time. Wasting time in orbit and the tower is precious playtime I'm only going to get less of. If this is just to downsize our marks now and then you raise it I'll be fine. I can understand you not wanting it like how and everyone saving marks. But 1200 to 200 is a big difference Edit: figured I'd quickly add my two cents on exotics. My hope is more will be carried to year two later but I still want to see it set up so fully upgraded exotics unlock the blueprint and it can be taken out fully upgraded rather than the current inventory scan and re level everything. As for the current legendaries I've come to terms with them/moved on. I don't like it but I understand it. Would have been nice to get a warning of this from Bungie before being almost on top of release date. Edit4: figured this needed saying right up front. A big reason this is a problem? Right in the very stream we watched. They tried to play it off oh where did the marks go oh well test build. No they had full marks then dismantled wasting the marks. They illustrated one of the very problems with the cap right in front of you Edit5: for Cozmo. I apologize now but I will be spamming the next stream with constant why is the cap so low at 200? Till its answered so please more questions and less scripted vault space jokes. Edit2: also for the future how about just making a few materials have a slight bottle neck instead of always a single all important material with a large one. I think your availability of etheric light was great though it was bottlenecked by lack of matchmaking Edit3: I think I know the reason for the cap but id really like to hear it from the source as well if you'd like to comment Cozmo Dear bungie, Please stop bottle necking currency. In vanilla destiny it was planetary materials. Dark below was radiant materials. House of wolves is now class materials and weapons parts but had the best availability with etheric light but was limited by no matchmaking. So marks will be the new bottleneck. It's bad enough we will have to farm planetary materials again now. Making one class material is a good step forward so was unifying the marks, but then you restricted their availability. Instead of saving 1200 now I can only save 200 at a time. I'd take the weekly limit over the cap. The solution is buy stuff. Well right now I don't have anything to buy with them but I will in taken King. So now I have to decide every other day what to buy instead of being able to save and decide or I risk wasted time. Remove the 200 cap or at least make it 600. We hate the glimmer cap why would we not react negatively to this? Two steps forward and one back doesn't get you far. Mark improvements would have been perfect with a higher cap

  • Anyone notice HOW we acquire legendary marks now? Today's weekly update said daily story mission, the daily crucible mission and the weekly !!! And then breaking down legendary gear anyone else notice Public events and crucible matches were NOT mentioned ?!! Does that mean we will no longer get marks from those ?? We will no longer get marks each crucible match or each public event??? Cause it's going to suck if the only way to get one currency that's shared between characters is two daily activities and one weekly activity !! Bungie please explain or address this.

    • The cap is way too low to share across characters. If it was per character then fine but to change each character capacity from 400 (1200 total like you said) to 200 total shared is crazy.

      • I was cool with legendary marks until I really paid attention to this - they say there is no cap to how many you can earn but there is a cap to how many you can hold. 200 seems a bit sparse. If we could have 200 crucible and 200 vanguard marks, then I don't think it unreasonable to hold up to 400 legendary marks.

        • Why is it not like before, you should be able to earn legendary marks by just playing crucible maps or doing vanguard strikes that would make much more sense.

        • The 200 cap allows you to waste legendary marks above the 200 limit especially when the item you are looking to obtain is close to that mark. Consider that the marks are not awarded in even increments across the various activities that generate them. Unless you take the time to plan it perfectly, the odds favor you losing a couple of marks every time you approach 200. That way you play the game longer and waste even more time! What a rip-off!
Each week players receive bonus Legendary Marks from the Weekly Heroic Playlist. These awards are received at the Account level rather than the character level - as was the case with Year One Weekly Heroic Rewards. We made this change to enable players to focus on a single character more, or feel less pressure to gear three characters at once for Legendary Marks.
The reason given here is either A) A Lie, they are really doing it to forcibly and artificially "extend gameplay" as they have pointlessly done to multiple things or B) 100% completely out of touch with their game. Players DON'T create multiple characters because they feel "pressured" to. That logic doesn't even make sense. What exactly is this pressure? Give us an actual example of such "pressure". There's no damn pressure. There is no single gain that is forced or pressured upon us that encourages us to make extra characters. We do it for variety and fun. Period. 100%. So with that said, that it is for fun and variety; this is the definition of an example of you sucking the fun out of something for NO REASON. Now you are telling us our progress will be slowed down on our character progression for absoultely no valid reason. This 200 cap and single reward all-characters-wide crap is absolutely inane and the logic, or rather, excuse, behind it is total BS.

          • Actually I rather have a problem with the 200 cap than with earning them at all. What is it worth having no weekly limit when I cannot get them at all except for a daily story and a daily crucible. As far as I can see I have done all quests giving them and the heroics give only 30 on top.

            • Bump for me to added my post patch thoughts. In summary, earning them is too limited for their importance and use. My cap concern still stands but seems like less of an issue only because earning them is so ridiculously limited. I'll be tracking my earnings and time played for a couple weeks to gauge how much grind this will add

              • I do see how the cap may be an issue, but I believe it's semi okay the way it is. As you don't have a weekly limit as to how many you can obtain. To alleviate the low cap on how many you can carry I would say raise it in between 250-300

I think not having a weekly earning cap is great, you just have to buy more gear. They never said we would need to farm materials again.

                  • I'm more irritated by the fact that you can't get them via crucible or strike playlists. Only the weekly heroic, daily crucible playlist, daily heroic story, and dismantling legendaries. If they award in the same or similar amounts as vanguard/crucible marks it'll take forever to get the 125 necessary for one exotic.

                    • i'm not sure if capping out legendary marks will be a problem. from what i've seen, they might just be the most epic grind yet to be made. but hopefully they'll increase the cap or at the very least allow us to cross the cap until every weekly reset. in other words, the cap would only be enforced once per week (deleting any surplus over the current 200 mark cap during the reset) and giving us some more time to think about how to spend our marks.

                        • Bump I seen that instantly thought about the problems I had last week when you buy something it costs either 80 or 150 then you have to go out and grind for more the limit puts you at a stand still but 200 shared across 3 characters with 3 different fractions? Oh no I'm not standing for this. You will never be able to buy weapons or items

                          • So I don't misunderstand you are you referring to the wallet cap of 200? The best thing I see about this is there's no more weekly limits. I used to hate having to wait until next week to buy my last piece of gear lol. I say increase the wallet cap around 500 at least.

Bungie is about to flat out steal 800 marks I worked for. I would rather it stay like it is, than have my marks stolen from me. It's complete BS. And it's Bungie's MO. That ACT like their doing you a favor.when really there screwing you over. They are so -blam!-ing dishonest.

                              • I think 400 is good. 200 plus 200 was barely enough when House of Wolves dropped, so why would 200 alone be enough? The only reason it isn't enough is because of the price of each item. Some are around 150 marks. Obviously being able to get an unlimited amount is good. But why even have a wallet cap? I think it makes no sense. Whats the upside? There is an obvious downside. Is the upside making sure that people don't get all the guns, gear and everything too quickly? This isn't subscription based, why would Bungie need to pace out the game?

                                  • The reason for the new currency? It makes you play every day, instead of earning marks in a one or two day a week play schedule. The primary method for Marks now is DAILY activities, not rounds of crucible or strikes. You now have to play everyday with multiple characters to get marks. This is effectively a weekly cap, as it has always been. Just earning them will be spread out and they will be consumed faster because is shared.
