A Guardian's Guide to Crucible Etiquette

Of recent I found myself striving to get those elusive Top 1%'s in some playlists, and as I was attempting this I noticed that many people had not shown respect to other players' playstyles. My teammates constantly dogged on others for their tactics and gear and spewed insults constantly. I want to resolve this issue with some close friends and myself. Here are MY guidelines to behaving like a good sport and becoming a better player. This is not a "Rule Book" for other players, this is just a guide that I will follow and wish to share my thoughts on. 1. Celebratory dances, squats, etc. shouldn't be taken as insults. You were a good enough opponent for the enemy to recognize your skill. It may be of ill-will but this is what I will take from it. 2. I won't pick people out for using weapons of choice, as I could easily use the same weapon. 3. I may lose, but there's no one/nothing to blame for it. 4. Every teammate is important, as is every enemy. Even if you feel you may lose, or you won't get desired stats.. don't leave. It only makes it harder for your former team to win. And if you DO decide to leave make sure your fellow squad-mates know if they want to stay instead of interrupting their game. 5. We ALL have our opinions, but they don't ALL need to be shared. 6. Enter Fireteam Chat whenever possible, in doing so you can communicate and use synergy with your teammates. (Suggested by: CheeryNibbler) 7. Boosting morale and keeping a positive outlook among teammates is always a good thing to do. (Suggested by: Abyssal King) 8. Trash talk isn't needed, it's a game and nothing more. Let your gun do the talking. (Suggested by: BAMAGILMORE) 9. Do NOT jump to conclusions against people, there's always a reason behind what's happening. (Credit to: TalonDarkfire04) This list could go on, so why don't you help it? I could add future suggestions and make the list larger. Feel free to comment a suggestion or critique already existing guidelines.

  • I'm glad you posted this as I was going to ask a question on the form about PvP etiquette and thought here might be a good place to ask. I don't play PvP a whole lot—I'm honestly not that great at it and have fun with it every once in a while. I feel like I contribute about middle of the pack in 6v6 (middle to bottom 3v3). I've mostly been playing PvP to get my Bad Juju. I had a situation arise last night where I was a few minutes into a game and my wife had an emergency with my 1 yr old son. So I had to stop what I was doing and help out. I didn't have much time to think about what to do so I put the controller down and went to help (i.e. my character still in the match but doing nothing). Would it have been better for me to drop out of the match before I put the controller down?
