ESO vs Destiny content comparison UPDATED

EDIT 14/07/15 ESO = £45 for the entire game and everything in it. DESTINY = £140 +£20 for emotes and shader total = £160 (half the price of a next gen console) (for new players, £60) Please keep that in mind and read the post before commenting , lots of people are completely missing the point. EDIT 06/07/15 - please note , this is a comparison of value for money, treatment of players, and customer satisfaction. This is a comparison of two games - one an FPS , the other an RPG , however they are both mmorpgs they are both console games you can buy. ESO is £45 whereas destiny with all expansions is £140 keep this in mind. Below is a list comparing the CONTENT of both to highlight the value. ORIGINAL POST ESO = elder scrolls online A comparison of the two games : EDIT 14/07/15 OPTIONAL MATCHMAKING As I recently found out , ESO offers optional matchmaking for all group dungeons , in fact it lets you queue in them while you play. As well as this it also has interactive in game guilds so you can form teams IN GAME. Destiny as we know doesn't have matchmaking and forces you outside of the game to look for groups. EMOTES AND SHADERS Destiny want to charge $20 for emotes and a shader and emblem - ESO has about 50 FREE emotes , about 50 free armour shaders that you can customise on the intricate details of your armour. LEVELS destiny lets you get to level 20 with this light level system pushing it to 34 , all in all takes about a week to 2 weeks of repeating same content - ESO lets you get to level 50 with new content all the while and then you get to play through the other factions and earn veteran ranks CRAFTING Destiny has re-rolling on weapons.......ESO has black smithing, alchemy. Tailoring, woodworking, enchanting, all of which are massively in depth, even with 'jobs' to do. CUSTOMISATION Destiny lets you customise some features of your characters face at the start, but looks nothing like in game - ESO lets you customise your WHOLE characters appearance with muscle build, height, tattoos, even butt size!! Lol - you can also make weapons and armour in the style of the different races, have your own enchantments, customise your characters armour colour with over 50 different shaders. EXPLORABLE WORLD Destiny has 4 explorable maps which can be seen in entirety in about 20 mins ......ESO has a whole world which would take hours to see all of it with unique dungeons , crating stations, interactive player encounters and more PVP destiny has small pvp maps and objectives which repeat over and over - ESO has a whole area (Cyrodil) which you can go to and take part in epic battles. CONCLUSION What destiny has that ESO doesn't have - guns What ESO has that destiny hasn't - EVERYTHING ELSE - UPDATE HISTORY - UPDATE - 04/07/15 A few people have asked me how can you compare? it's like comparing apples and oranges. Ok let's run with this analogy for a moment and consider the point I'm trying to make here : ESO is a bag of apples for £1 - destiny is buying an orange for £10 from a shifty eyed orange seller. You walk away, open the bag and realise you've only got half an orange (vanilla destiny). You go back and the seller says you need to buy another half of an orange, so you do and you walk away, open the bag and you've got a quarter of an orange (dark below) and this continues on with house of wolves.... TTK will not be 'big enough to be a game itself' and even if it was that means we've got 1 and a half games for the price of 3 (with what we've invested this far) meaning we paid for 3 oranges and got 1 and a half UPDATE - 02/07/2015 Numerous people have asked why I am comparing these two games. One is an FPS and the other is an RPG. Well the comparison goes deeper than that: it's actually about value for money and content. It's also important that players are aware of what choices are out there. And it's not just important for players to be aware of this it's also the Devs of Bungie. DeeJ has asked us to keep talking about destiny and feedback our suggestions to which we've been constantly ignored. I'm not interested in having a debate with DeeJ on this - a year on with no changes has lost my respect and I'm not interested what they (Bungie) have to say. It's a case now of actions not words to build that trust and respect back up. To be honest deep down I loved destiny I just feel immensely let down by it because of the business choices Bungie have made. If you want me to 'throw money at my screen' then I'm afraid you need to take a hard look at the post below and do something about it.

  • Just started playing this past week and I couldn't agree more. I still like Destiny (FPS at heart) but ESO has brought out the MMORPG gamer in me.

  • I was arguing this with someone on a different forum they were trying to say the 40 price tag on Ttk was expectable because wow had expansions that cost that much I literally looked at my screen with the are you stupid look.

Let be honest... Bungie isn't trying to make an MMO. It's more of a shooter than anything else. If we did the same type of comparison to something like Call of Duty then you would see Destiny come out WAY ahead. Destiny still has issues for sure, but comparing it to an MMO isn't very fair.

      • The funny thing is so many people dont understand your intention. You dont compare the games. You compare content and value. And therefore you get my bump because destiny sucks and will ever suck because we will never have content.

        • He is arguing value for content here people. Is that really so hard to understand? Destiny contains very, VERY little content for the amount that we have paid thus far as opposed to Tamriel Unlimited. I'm sorry, but it's just the truth. I'm not saying that I dislike Destiny at all, to be sure, but ESO does have way, WAY more content for the 60$ price tag attached to it. And that's not even including DLC. Destiny, with all of it's current DLC, has less content than ESO for the same price. That's the argument here. This has nothing to do with whether or not ESO is better than Destiny or vice-versa, and has everything to do with the amount of content that we are getting for 60$ from ESO and Destiny, and how it's insane that ESO has that much more content than Destiny does, FOR THE SAME PRICE. And that's VANILLA Destiny we're talking about here, with the DLCs as well it's now come to 95$(135$ or more if you include The Taken King) and that still will not have as much content as ESO, I guarantee it. I have always regretted getting Destiny on day 1, honestly, and while I do enjoy the game in terms of game mechanics and the PvP, I still do feel as if I was ripped off in terms of how much content I have gotten for 95$ thus far, when games like ESO are only 60$ and have me doing way, way more. Again, let me state this for all of you people who are going to be all "then don't play Destiny you nub if you don't like it", I never stated here that I DISLIKED DESTINY. I ENJOY DESTINY. I just think it's a little ridiculous that ESO has like, 10 times the content for an even cheaper price, and Bungie can't give us more to do without charging us almost the same price for expansions. The Taken King is 40$? I mean, come on, really? It sure as hell better have a shit ton to do, because otherwise I will never give Bungie another cent.

          • Where you there when ESO launched on PC? Terrible terrible bugs. I mean game breaking. The only difference between the two companies is how they handled their community. Bungie choose lies and being obscure while Bethesda choose being upfront and apologetic. That being said, I'm still pissed at both of them and the video game industry for letting the standard of having paying customs beta test their games take place.

Haven't touched Destiny since starting ESO. There is so much content that I don't see me playing Destiny in it's current state again anytime soon. By the time ESO grows stale, Fallout 4 will be here. The best part is that ESO feels like a game when you play it. It's very immersive, with so much to do that you can spend countless hours simply exploring each zone. Whereas Destiny felt like a chore, and took all of like 15 minutes to explore an entire zone during patrol... then... you realize there is no reason to explore because there is no content to justify it (no item farming to increase/change weapon stats, no world bosses, etc.) Bungie devs obviously didn't play Borderlands. Borderlands is about 85% of what Destiny tried to be. To say Destiny is the first game of this kind is a joke.

              • Nice job comparing an MMORPG to an FPS. How about we compare WoW to ESO. Oh wait it will get rekt in all areas because ESO has no content next to WoW and offer less for a $60 price tag.

                  • Another thing that should be edited to your ESO vs. Destiny comparison, is the maintenance provided by the various development teams. ESO was a garbled mess of code when it was first released to the PC market. Zenimax worked diligently to fix these problems, thus making ESO probably the most content filled world of it's kind to date. When a lot of people are critical of ESO, they're referring to what the game looked like on the launch date, they choose to ignore the fact that Zenimax has turned a terd into a shiny golden egg for gaming. Destiny, on the other hand, was a terd on day one. And across multiple paywalls the game still remains content-less, filled with bugs and broken mechanics, with only a few words added to the mere sentence of the game's storyline. In this day in age games are bound to have day one woes, it's the nature of the beast. The true test is how a company deals with these problems, listens to their fan base, and ultimately overcomes their challenges. Zenimax/Bethesda loves games, Bungie/Activision loves money, and that's what it really boils down to.
