Why would a "sane law abiding person" want a gun?
What possible legitimate use would you have for it?
Guns should be reserved for those that need them for their jobs (farmers etc) and should be strictly controlled.

Guns are fun.

This is the dumbest reply ive ever read... I think ive lost brain cells while reading that comment.
-
Do you think throwing words like dumb around is a replacement for a well structured well backed up statement out of interest?
-
Its not well structured nor well backed up. I find it rather humorous how one, you think you're more intelligent than me in english and two, how you think you even remotely understand gun control and how to effectively stop gun violence.
-
Firstly I have never said I was more intelligent or had better English skills than you. Secondly on what basis do you question my understanding of the subject? I find it funny how you would prefer to be derisive than actually attempt to put up your own opinion and try and defend it in rational, reasoned debate.
-
why the fuck do farmer need guns for their jobs, lmao. your bias is retarded.
-
Firstly I said that people who required guns for their jibs should be allowed them. I am not sure how that displays any bias? I only gave farmers as an example as I know that farmers regularly have shotguns even in countries with tight gun control. I don't know exactly why farmers have shotguns but I assume it is to protect their stock from predators. Can you elaborate on why you think that comment has any bias?

Edited by Nubbin: 4/20/2015 5:59:41 PM1. lots of people enjoy target shooting 2. conceal carry, motherfucker. 3. home protection. those are three reasons a law abiding citizen would want a firearm.
-
Please read the rest of the thread and then come back to this. We have already been through those points.
-
From most of your replies , it seems like no matter what anyone says about owning a firearm you shoot it down. I'm going to make this very simple and short for you. I want to own a gun. That's my reason. You can say that I'm dumb. You can spit out stats to back the claim that owning a gun you are more likely to get into trouble. I don't care. I want one . I get one.
-
And if I wanted to kill you? If i wanted your house? What if I wanted a nuke? We are not 5 we can't expect to get stuff because we want them. Also yes I do shoot down arguments - if a well explained argument is provided with sources and full facts and figures that I can't shoot down then I will change my mind and my point of view. But otherwise yes I will shoot it down.
-
If you wanted to kill me I would shoot you. A nuke isn't easily countered by law enforcement. A gun is. There are counter measures that can stop someone who is trying to go on a killing spree. Just because guns are legal to have, making them illegal won't eliminate gun crime. You will spark a whole new illegal business of gun smuggling . People who openly defy what the law says they can't do, don't care about the other laws that govern our society.
-
I'm not saying that we can eliminate gun crime I am saying that we can lower it significantly enough to justify the measures. Also you are assuming that most crimes are pre-meditated which they are not.
-
You are assuming that it will lower it significantly . I never said murder or gun violence is pre meditated . If someone buys a smuggled firearm, they plan on using it for bad. There is nothing that anyone could do to stop them. If they decide to rob someone's house and end up murdering them because they tried to defend their property, that's not pre meditated.
-
I'm not assuming I'm deducing from the overwhelming body of evidence (of which I have various sources scattered through my replies)
-
-
...? That?
-
I'm agreeing with you..
-
Ah my apologies. Makes sense now.
-
No worries

Worst opinion 2015

Ah Britton ever the king of well thought out rational arguments. May I welcome you to our debate its always a pleasure to have some one as mature and eloquent as you involved. At last a well reasoned debate.
-
Edited by Britton: 4/19/2015 11:57:52 PMI wasn't stating my own argument, just disagreeing with yours.
-
Surely two people expressing disagreeing opinions is pretty much the base of an argument?
-
It is. But I didn't express the basis for my disagreeing opinion.
