Why do people do crota normal first and then hard?
Just a question..

4 Replies2 reasons. One because its fun. 2 Because it gives you an extra 3 chances at an exotic. Now, many will say that HM just doubles your chances. That may be true, but I have never EVER got two exotic drops from a Crota HM run at the same time. I HAVE however, run my titan through on normal and got an exotic, and then run it on HM with my titan and got another EXOTIC. Doesn't make sense to deprive yourself of that opportunity on VOG or Crota!

Not that hard is "hard" but easy mode is significally more fun and allows you to bring new lower level alts. And as also mentioned, for the special and heavy weapon drops.

Black Hammer... This week I ran all three of my characters on normal and the only weapon I received was the swordbreaker. Maybe next week.

I only do the checkpoint on normal then I do Deathsinger and Crota CP on hard. Don't need anything else. Just 3 exotics!

Besides being fun and something that any class can do (instead of mostly hunter for Hard Mode) our main reason is for the special weapons. I've had 8 Heavy Machine guns but only one Hunger of Crota and one Sword Breaker. So for my team is mostly that, plus the double exotic drop

26 RepliesIgnore all of the uniformed posters. Here are the reasons you want to run normal first. 1) Normal mode loot tables don't contain primary weapons. If you've got all the Crota primaries you want and are just looking for armor pieces with better stats or radiant materials, doing normal first will take the primaries out of the equation. By running normal first and then hard, you're more likely to walk away with an armor piece/shards/energy as opposed to a weapon you don't want or already have. 2) Double Exotic drop. Killing Crota on normal has a chance to drop an exotic weapon. Same goes for killing Crota on hard. It's possible to get an exotic drop from both normal and hard on the same character in the same week. I've had it happen myself so I know this to be the case. 3) Crota Special and Heavy weapons only drop on normal. These weapons are more elusive than the primaries so many run normal just for this reason. For example, I had multiple drops for every primary, special, and heavy except the Hunger of Crota. It took many many many completions on normal before I got the hunger. 4) Chests give 2 radiant materials regardless of whether you run on normal or hard and you can only get them once. In normal mode, you can keep someone in the raid and swap to get the chests on all three characters at once. This way you don't forget to get it on one of your other characters and don't have to worry about failing to get it if the door closes or the first chest isn't in a convenient spot when you run through normal or hard on other characters. 5) killing Crota on normal is fun and easy.

Because its fun man! We like the feel of getting rewards at the end of a riad though, makes it less worthless, the raids are fun, so I do it on both =)

I am missing the shotgun & the fusion. On hard, I'm missing the Crux. I'd like to get all of them & try them out.

Possible exotic from Crota on both if you do normal then hard.

Until I get all the weapons/shards I need, I'll still do NM all the way through for the Crota exotic drop.

1 ReplyI didn't know why people did this until I learned that HM and NM have different loot tables. But if you do HM and then NM you get nothing.

1 ReplyPersonally, I just like doing the raid on normal. It's fun, easy, a good time with friends. Hard can be hit or miss depending on your team. I already have all the Crota items anyway.

2 RepliesWe normally run it 3 times normal then 3 times hard on Tuesday nights. Full runs. Takes 2-3 hours to do all 6 normally. Can normally get all three normals done in under an hour. We still have friends that haven't dropped black hammer. They both have necrocasm but not BH.

I run it normal first to try and get a Hunger or a Black Hammer. Then hard for the Word.

I would run normal so I can get a third hoc, swordbreaker, and still need 2 light of the abyss. Which only drop on normal.
