(This part added after the HoW announced info.) BUNGIE managed to screw (...lol...) all my effort, not that am complaining i liked the way they are changing things. (Except the fact of no RAID YET) now all the effort and preparation i list hereafter won't really help to get you to level up, however you will get the new vendor's stuff. Bottom line just play and have fun.
now what? Good question, well for me am preparing for next DLC, (few weeks remained) so other than having fun playing the game, consider the following steps (keeping in mind that i have 3x32 characters - titan, hunter, and warlock and i play like 2 hours a day average)
1- level up all faction to the edge of the next level (3 or above) so when HoW released you can get the level up package easily, that MAY contain legendary gears and weapons from the related vendor - and that suppose to be level 33. remember to store bounties before the DLC to level up when needed.
2- Get crucible and vanguard marks to the maximum for each character - 200, which is important to purchase the new missing gears and weapons after the above mentioned step.
3- store materials (Helium, Spin metal, spirit bloom and relic iron) as much as you can. of course glimmer always available in "The Exclusion Zone", Also strange coins should be stored for any surprises and bungie full of it.
4- don;t mind leveling up the current weapons and gears (if you have enough to fight tho) keep your resources ready for the next DLC
5- do public events ONCE for each charecter in a daily bases (if possible) and KEEP the reward package at the post office, later after u get the new gears from DLC, use them to upgrade these gears (u know each package is 5000 XP) - Suggested by the user RickB50 great idea tho.
6- this one suggested by user Miktakulaer, get exotic engrams from Xur and keep them till after the DLC release to use, this one not clear if it will work or not. Probably this will not work , the encrypted gear / weapons will be pre-DLC
7- don't cash the 200 glimmer race killing rewards (like axiomatic beats from the vex, house banner from the fallen, ..etc) keep them to use the glimmer for upgrading.
all in all each character upgrade of 4 new gears (without Bungie surprises - ; ) will be 14,000 glimmer, 200 gear spare parts, 320 planetary materials, and 72 ascendant materials (or 84 radiant materials) depend on what they will require.
bottom line, just have fun playing the game but do the daily + the patrol every day.
now, when DLC come out, you will level the vendors up (1 bounty each) get the new package from each vendor buy the missing gears (boof u r back level 31, LOL,) level up your new gears and u r one of the first level 33 guardians and ready to do the next raid, get the raid gears (damn it u r 32 again + the said vendor's gears will be dismantled LMAO). geesh this game full of it...
Finally, BUNGIE may surprise us with another rewarding (...) system after all, hopefully this will work
what you think and what will you do ?
edit-1 adding other guardians great ideas (point 5 & 6)
edit-2 highlighting that idea #6 will not work
edit-3 added item 7 and the overall cost of upgrade
edit-4 adding opinion on top (base on HoW available data as on May 9th)

It's great that you're using the forums to discuss Destiny with some fellow players, but you seem to have gotten lost in the process! Don't sweat it, just move your topic from #Community to #Destiny, and you'll be good to go.

why would u rush leveling stuff up after the DLC. If you do that then you end up repeating this long pattern each DLC and never get to enjoy the new content because your so focused at getting to the top. It's the journey that we all enjoy!

Edited by GreyPooponya: 3/24/2015 10:22:41 PMIf you've got it all done, then you've been working insane over-time on this game. Since Sept. 22nd, and my highest Eris rank is still 2 :p
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi98cdhJnUBawZQUZpzTVGA
My Level 32 activities I hunt for specific shaders to match my weapons and gear. Collect sparrows that match specific shaders so that I look cooler when traveling with fireteam or clan. #warlockSWAG I can now play raids and strikes with no pressure or fear of failing because I have nothing to lose or gain. Final play Dying Light

yea I've finally hit Destiny boredom after non stop playing since launch. I even repurchased a 360 to help my brother and friends kill Crota and get raid gear. If not for that I would have been bored a month ago. I know it takes a lot to put out new fresh content for a major game with a demanding community, but they need something every week to keep it fresh man. Inferno wasn't the greatest to me, but it was new. You always have Iron Banner, which is ok, but new PVP playlists for a week at a time is at least something. Tired of the same freaking strikes, same boring daily missions, and the weekly being the exact same as the nightfall (yet slightly easier). Fresh things needed at this point, and I know many have stated these very things way before me. Crucible is always fun, but even that can get boring after grinding in IB.

I've somewhat done all of that and now I just play rumble and go on patrol for stuff

#6 - Engrams, especially exotic will not turn into new dlc gear when decrypted. All engrams are predetermined once picked up or purchased. Not just opinion, as I tried the same thing before last dlc. As far as saving public events, save these for sure. Keep in mind that by using Postmaster to store weapons or completed events only goes to 20 max and if too many are saved, items cycle out. My friend lost a Hawkmoon and NLB. Granted not many tears were flowing for NLB but still sucks.

Your just gonna run out of things to do even faster after HOW drops
-
I'm just gonna go play GTA5, just got the game
-
I am collecting as many packages from the different factions as I can before the DLC drops.

you guys are mad thinking what to do? then there is a problem with the game. You should need to think. It should be fun to begin with. When all there is left to do is grind reputation. I recommend picking up another game which you wanted to play.

Edited by M pinball3: 3/24/2015 10:32:44 PMI have exotic bounties all done and ready to turn in. Just waiting for the DLC to drop. This works. I had the thorn bounty before the dark below dropped. Finished it a couple days after and I got a 331 thorn. Also I'm pretty sure engrams are predetermined before you go to the cryptarch. So anything bought before HoW will be 36 light gear.
-
My level 32 activities include doing the weekly heroic 3 times for strange coins. That is all.
-
Buy exotic engrams from Xur and let them in your vault after DLC you have the chance for new exotic armor! ;) Hope this will help you!
-
Worth saving bounties but also the daily public event packages at the postmaster to give xp and level stuff up really quickly.
-
These are nice tips really. But why not to let all these activities after the DLC? Why to hurry.
-
I thought the packages were already predetermined once u get them?
-
1 question for anyone able to answer so im suppose to get rank on 2 right before it gets to 3 or get rank to 3 and wait unitl dlc then get to 4???

Like mik said save exotic engrams but I'm also saving legendary engrams that I find by playing instead of spending motes of light on the engrams.

Thank you sir!

I'm just working on my Grimoire and recently played my first ever Iron Banner. Playing in PVP is like experiencing this game fresh for me. Fun again.

Great plan... I already was planning with the vanguard and crucible marks, but had not thought of the faction packages. Thanks for the thought.
