Teachers are one of the more useful members of humanity
They help the future by passing down knowledge that they have acquired throughout the years as well as the material that they are taught. Without teachers, there would not be that much progress in the world, or it would be extremely slow progress.
Teachers are one of the world's most rewarding, yet underpaid jobs that someone will strive for. It's a passion, because teaching doesn't really bring in the money.

11 RepliesAs a teacher, I can only agree to some degree. We aren't the end all be all. And as with any profession, we don't all meet the bar of quality. It really is a tough line of work though, hardly any respect, low pay, and lots of work. The ones that love doing it are the best though, and I guess that's really the key with any line of work. Just think back to when you were in school, how the kids treated teachers. It isn't easy to enjoy your work, and it can be hard to make yourself be the best when the only interaction you have is a negative reaction from those you are trying to help.

And yet we are cutting funding to education more and more to the bone. We are at the point where teachers are making paper protractors because they can't afford them for the class and can't make the students buy them anymore. We teach students how to pass tests, blazing over dozens of subjects, without ever teaching them anything or letting any of the information sink in. We crowd more and more students into classrooms and expect conditions to improve from this. We spend more money on students than most of Europe yet are nearing the bottom for education. We are developing a whole generation of adults who are going to be incompetent for the most basic of jobs for middle class existence.
