The purpose of this thread is not to show I see the community as a single entity, but rather, that no one in this community can respect each others opinions on what they want.
Community complains about no large flat Forge Environments -> 343i gives us Flat Forge Environment -> Community complains about new Forge Maps being too bland and simple.
Community complains about a plethora of weapons being unbalanced -> 343i responds by changing the game to allow easy weapon changes -> community complains about 343i not fixing DMR
Community complains for multiple games about Weapon Descoping -> 343i removes Weapon Descoping -> Community responds by asking for Weapon Descoping again
Community complains Forge World's pallette is too bland -> 343i responds by creating 3 new Forge maps in Halo 4 with their own unique pieces -> community complains they aren't as good as Forge World
Community complains FF is too boring -> 343i tries something innovative with Spartan Ops -> community says FF was better and more fun
Community loves Halo CE -> Bungie makes Halo 2 -> Community says Halo CE was better -> Bungie makes Halo 3 -> community says Halo 2 was better -> Bungie makes Halo Reach -> Community says Halo 3 was better -> 343i Makes Halo 4 -> Community says Reach was better -> Halo 5 comes out -> community will say Halo 4 was better -> Halo 6 comes out -> community will say Halo 5 was better.
Community complains Reach's story was too bland and was downright Terrible -> 343i focuses on return of Master Chief -> Community complains Chief isn't the same and the story is stupid despite the fact this story in the Halo franchise is one of the most integrated of all time.
Boy, thinking about the Halo Community makes me dizzy =S

you should update it. about the X marker. and its not the Halo community dude. its the people that call themselves "competitives." They truly and honestly do want another Halo 2 or 3 multiplayer wise. The Halo community is great. Look at GoBeyond Entertainment. The goers on Waypoint may seem immature and young but theyre very open minded. Plus the people here like faux news and omg a banana are Bungie nut riders or just trolls. Its really hard to ignore their stupidity :/
-
Destiny will be the same thing... "Destiny is not as good as Halo!" *Destiny 2 comes out" "OMG Bungie ruined Destiny! The first one was better!"
-
I cannot agree more. In fact, a couple months ago I said something similar (I think you were there when I did). I basically went over the reasons why Halo 4 is so hated and why it isn't because of 343 Industries' direction or anything but because the community can't be satisfied with anything. Back when Halo 3 came out everybody was all like "Halo 2 was better! BUNGIE Y UNO LIEK US!?!?" Then Halo: Reach came out and everybody was like "GAWD BUNGIE Y UNO MAEK A GOOD GAEM LIEK HALO 3!?!? I CANNOT WAIT FOR YOU TO STOP MAKING HALOS". Now Bungie has left and 343 is making the games and just as I suspected, everybody is going "We want Bungie back!" despite all the shit they talked about them, all the flack they got because of Reach and all. Now Halo 4 is the one getting the flack, but just wait and see, Halo 5 will "suck" and Halo 4 will be magically better all of the sudden, despite having all the features that they will want.
-
343's only mistake- was listening to the community- if they did their own thing, Halo 4 would have been a great game.
-
Ooh can I add some more? Community requests 'Classic' playlist> 343 adds legendary slayer>community complains how AR starts are boring and no one plays it Community requests 1-50 ranking system>343 adds CSR> community complains about how it's crap and doesn't use it

Edited by Hylebos: 3/26/2013 4:08:21 AMBREAKING NEWS: Most communities aren't collective hive minds, and are actually made up of many different people with many different opinions on game design. This really shouldn't come as a shocker, nor should it be so overwhelming that it should make you dizzy.

All that 7ruth.

Lol this is so true

It's not about hypocrisy or respecting opinions at all. It's a simply the shifting of vocal populations. Let's get something straight about the Internet: People love negativity. If there are things to complain about people can go on about it forever. If things are alright though, there may be one or two "horray" threads, but it dies down pretty fast. Let's look at this particular example because it has two well-defined contradictory points of view.
Community complains for multiple games about Weapon Descoping -> 343i removes Weapon Descoping -> Community responds by asking for Weapon Descoping again
Right. Let's fix that.
Community-A is fine with descoping and doesn't make any threads about it. Community-B complains for multiple games about Weapon Descoping -> 343i removes Weapon Descoping -> Community-A responds by asking for Weapon Descoping again.
You hardly ever see things from the currently happy community like "This feature is already working fine and here's why". You might see a few posts like that as replies to the complaint threads, but usually not threads on their own. There's no hypocrisy, there's just loud people. An Aside:
A lot of the OP's points aren't even examples of contradictory behavior. Many can be cases of Bungie/343 trying to fix something, but not doing it adequately enough to satisfy the vocal community. OP mentioned the community complaints regarding Fire Fight being too boring. Spartan Ops may have been created as a response, but that doesn't make it automatically better. If there are people who feel that Spartan Ops was not a satisfactory replacement for Fire Fight, then that's a perfectly valid opinion. They may still think that Fire Fight itself is flawed, but it's possible to think that whilst simultaneously hating Spartan Ops. It becomes a lesser-of-two-evils kind of thing. With the weapon balancing example OP says that 343 changed to game to "allow easy weapon changes", to which the proposed hypocritical response from the community is about 343 not fixing the DMR. These are not contradictory complaints. Sure you can make weapon swap-outs accessible, but that doesn't change the underlying problem of weapon balance.
I think 343i should stop listening to the community XP

Edited by Master Chief: 7/15/2013 11:34:09 PMI miss Forge World. I would have preferred if 343 lazily copied and pasted Reach's Forge World into the game, rather than giving us 3 craptacular maps and one boring, flat one 6 months later.
-
why are there like 7 of these things
-
Community complains Forge World's pallette is too bland -> 343i responds by creating 3 new Forge maps in Halo 4 with their own unique pieces -> community complains they aren't as good as Forge World
They did derp up on that though. It should have been in one big map or the maps themselves should have been bigger. 2 of the maps have a large building that takes up a large portion of the area it's at and it can't be deleted. And none of the maps have any large flat areas. They did do that DLC Forge Island, but that is a joke. The 3 islands are small circles and you really can't do anything major with them and those islands take up a very small portion of the map. The rest of the map is nothing but water. They should have did a Forgewrold map instead, but each area is flat and it has it's own environment.

:') beautiful.

It's because people who are fine with it stay silent, while the minority who don't voice their opinions, but when the dev changes something another minority who were fine with the game before start moaning about them changing it, what's more the previous minority will never change their opinions on the product, they have their idea of it and will refuse to accept the possibility of improvement. It's a fruitless endeavor to try and appease one's core fan base when none of them can agree on what should be done and would moan if what they wanted actually happened anyway. What's more confusing is when the same groups then don't understand why developers don't want to listen to them...
-
Just wanted to say: Forge Island is garbage. I can't believe they would pass it off as a "good" forge map; let alone a map at all. The renders for the skybox and mountains are terrible. I can't believe they would put all that work into graphics then release a map with a copy-and-pasted terrain all around it.
-
Halo has become the Star Wars of the video game industry. The fans can do nothing but complain about changes and the direction that the series is taking.
-
THANK YOU sombody who is supporting 343 other than me and everything is valid. i dont really understand why everybody is saying 343i is the i really necisary?
-
My opinion = fact. Your opinion = easily discredited theory. AmIDoin'ItRightYet?
-
The Halo community is not a hivemind.
-
OP doesn't know what hypocrisy is.. We're aski for things and they're not doing them even remotely similar to how we want them done. That is not hypocrisy.
-
I about given up on lolHalo4.
-
Personally, I still think Master Chief's story should have ended with Halo 3. Such a fantastic sendoff. I think 343 would have done a much better job if they created a new protagonist (maybe a Spartan IV?).
-
Edited by Pfhortnite: 3/30/2013 7:39:53 PMWhile true, there is one thing wrong with your position: 343i did an awful job attempting to solve these issues, which gives the community a solid reason to cry and moan about something that will never be changed instead of dropping the franchise, even though it is hard to let go.
-
Certain members of the all communities are like this though. Very hypcoritical. Go over to the cod forums and take a look. It was identical to the reach forum.
