Personally, I still think Master Chief's story should have ended with Halo 3. Such a fantastic sendoff.
I think 343 would have done a much better job if they created a new protagonist (maybe a Spartan IV?).

No. I would have been highly disappointed if MC was replaced when his story doesn't have a definite ending.

Yes, I can see that, and I would agree if he was just floating randomly, but Halo 3's Legendary Ending clearly shows him floating towards Requiem, proving for a fact his adventures weren't indefinitely postponed.

But it is not 343's place to determine his fate. He was not their creation.

So? 343i has the IP. They now have the say on what happens. Besides, Bungie already had an idea on where to take Halo 4, so they themselves knew MC's story wasn't done.

I know that they own the IP. I'm just saying that I don't agree with them determining the directions that the Chief takes now. And I highly doubt Bungie was ever planning on a Halo 4. That's why they broke free from Microsoft to begin with. ODST and Reach were just an agreement with Microsoft in order to release them as an independent company.

They were drawing up concept art for Halo 4. Bungie even said they planned on doing it, but changed their minds to take the story back to the beginning. Why don't you agree? 343i understands Master Chief's character way better than Bungie did. 343i, alligned him with his charcter in the books. Besides, it's like one of those school assignments where you have 5 Minutes to write one part of a story and then hand it off to someone else. By the time you get it back, you can't do a damn thing about what the other people wrote. Face it, the amount of people wanting MC back outweighed the people wanting him to stay.

I know people wanted him back, I won't argue that. I understand that I'm the minority in wanting his story to end with Halo 3. I just think in the long run that it would have benefitted 343 to create their own legacy rather than continuing one that doesn't originate from them. They did a good job with Halo 4's campaign, but there were a few things I didn't like. What I'm trying to say is that 343 can't ride out MC forever. They're going to have to branch out sooner or later if they want to keep their fan base. MC is being milked for all he's worth.

You can't just say, "Hey, let's make a character that's as popular and iconic as Master Chief, Sonic, Mario, and Link" Frankly, not returning to MC would have killed off Halo for good.
