Slug shotguns do in real life. Some can kill at up to 100 yds What is bad is the misconception that a shotgun is a point blank weapon that can’t kill beyond a few feet. A real shotgun—-at the distances they get used in this game—-would blow a hole in someone’s chest big enough to put your fist through.

Technically a nine millimeter still has the kinetic force to kill past a kilometer. Do we need to see sidearms one shooting people across maps? Shotguns need rethinking. There should be other options in that special slot (and highly viable ones also)

  • But space magic and guardians aren’t real so why should shotguns be?

  • In battlefield, shotguns make people cry harder than here cause they reach so far lol.

  • True of most shooter games compared to Destiny. Which is why I just smh at the constant whining and crying about them. I still remember the Destiny 1 beta when I pointed a shotgun at a Vandal from the distance I was used to using them in Titanfall.....pulled the trigger..... ...and the only thing I did was piss it off. I thought the thing had misfired or the damage failed to register for some reason. Took me a while to figure out that the damn things had HALF the range I was used to.

  • Only some of what you said is true. No shotgun has a farther range than any small caliber SMG. Or any SMG for that matter. A 22, 9mm or anything in between will fly farther and more accurate than any shotgun shell with any choke. Slugs fly farther, but is just a big solid chunk of lead that wont fly as far as any regular bullet no matter the caliber.

My understanding of SMGs is that most of them fire standard 9 mm pistol rounds, and that anything over a 100 yds is sketchy.....and their optimal range is MUCH closer. That "big chunk of lead" being fired from a slug shotgun has a huge powder charge behind it. So its carrying a lot of energy behind it. Put enough energy behind it, and I can get a CITY BUS to fly farther than a 9mm bullet. But that's beside actual point. The point that the OP is failing to realize this that BOTH shotguns and SMGs are close-combat weapons...and generally operate in similar ranges in combat. SMGs have a little more reach and punch than handguns.....and shotguns are NOT point-blank weapons that struggle to kill from beyond a few feet. As seems to be the FPS game trope.

  • I dnt think you'd be able to kill anything beyond about 60-70 yards with a slug. Like I said it's just a big chunk of lead. It's not arrowdynamic whatsoever. Just has more stopping power at farther ranges than regular shotgun shells. Which are just a bunch of bb's that can be somewhat controlled with the choke in the shotgun. I think a Turkey choke gives you the tightest spread with a shotgun.

  • No a slugger will not fly farther than a 9mm bullet at any time whatsoever ever. A pistol 9mm round will fly farther than a slug. I think most smgs like the mac 11 are 9mm. I believe you can get some that use smaller caliber. Maybe I'm wrong on that. I personally have an Remington 870 express, 2 410, a 28 gauge double barrel a ruger 22, colt 38 police special and about 2 more random guns. A cheap 9mm pistol and a bolt action 22. Any of those weapons will travel farther than a shotgun slug round out of a 12 gauge or the 410's. A 22 bullets can travel up to a mile I believe. Not out of a pistol obviously a 9mm travels like 1400 feet per second while a shotgun slug only travels 100-175 yards. I think I'm wrong about the SMG being 22 I think its .45. Which if I'm not mistaken is the most common round.

Travel length is not the same as effective range. War veterans have stories of rounds that they've been struck by that fell harmlessly to the ground because they lacked the penetrating power to get through their clothing by the time it struck them. Penentraing power is all about kinetic energy 1/2 mv^2....and energy loss over distance. So while it is more EFFICIENT to get a small bullet going really fast to deliver a punch.....you can also get a larger bullet going more slowly to devastating effect as well. What makes a shotgun slug dangerous is that there is a massive powder charge behind it compared to a pistol round....and it is that charge that ultimately determines what energy it delivers. Which is why the world was so unprepared for the Minet bullet ("ball") when it appeared on the battlefield in the middle of the 19th Centry. It fired a bullet that was easily the size of a modern shotgun slug, with a massive power charge behind it. With rifling and its aerodynamic shape, its slow moving bullet could deliver accurate fire and a fatal injury at (IIRC) out to 400 yds....and was devastating in a world where battle tactics were designed for weapons that struggled to be accurate beyond 50. It was devastating because the bullet create horrible injuries at the range firefights were typically fought in that era, and medicine in that era was WOEFULLY unprepared to deal with those injuries. Which is why its the US Civil War is only war in our history where more people died to small arms fire than from artillery.

  • And you’re with out a doubt 100% right but what I’m saying is why use anything that’s a special that’s not a shotgun. Think of Call Of Duty you have the fan favorites but everything is decently balanced. Sure i haven’t play any COD in a very long time but the concept is still there

  • Because if you’re good you stay out of the reach of your average shotgun ape, and that frees up your special slot for other things. The problem is the community starts whining when mid and long range specials are strong.

  • There are always options. But the meta always defaults to the most efficient killing method.
