What can be done to stop cheating ?

My fire team dosed once last night in trials. It was obvious flying it that we were going to be hit from their recent game history, and we were. Also, my mates playing comp got dosed twice, by the same team. And then they got dosed once in trials. In my experience it used to be a relatively rare event, but is now becoming a regular occurrence. Honestly , this is getting really stupid, and is out of control.

  • 100 percent dedicated servers. I love D2, but there is simply no excuse for Bungie using this abysmally shitty hybrid P2P system. Overwatch and Titanfall 2 both came out before D2, and both use dedicated servers (and didn't charge players extra for it). Bungie are just cheap and went for the bargain-bin PvP option, and now players are paying for it.

For starters, you can report them here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Troubleshoot?oid=13967 That said, Bungie has not done nearly enough, and as long as there is an incentive, cheaters are going to cheat. Bungie needs to remove the incentive. The best way to do that, would be dedicated servers, so that if a DoS attack was launched, the cheater wouldn’t benefit. I don’t see Bungie doing that though, because it would cost them money.

    • I would suggest, keep playing and expect different results.

      • The majority of the time when someone thinks someone else is cheating it's because someone has a terrible internet connection.

        • Just watch it bleed more into comp, gambit and quickplay now that trials is done.

        • I honestly think if Microsoft and Sony started perma-banning consoles/accounts/IP addresses for one infraction a lot of this would go away. Everyone knows when people are cheating, as long as there's no real consequences for getting caught there's no real reason for people to quit doing it.

          • There's not much you can do on your end and with their shoddy p2p system there really isn't all that much Bungie can do either. Of course, I give them a lot of flak on the topic because they seem to believe "not much they can do" is a valid excuse to not do anything at all. It's true, there are not many options at Bungie's disposal in the area of preventing cheaters but there are ways to detect them and ban them in retrospect. Ddos'ers tend to have a pattern in their game history and Bungie has that data; player history is tracked and this includes things like kills, deaths, remaining players, etc. If someone at Bungie were to scout the leader boards, or write up an algorithm for a security system that did this automatically, looking for patterns in gameplay that include frequent occurrences of winning with low scores, enemy teams with low player counts, high ranks in crucible with suspiciously low k/d or k/d/a, etc. then they could easily track cheaters. If they did go with an automated system, don't give that system the ability to issue bans (of course) but it could be used to flag cheaters. But... since Bungie doesn't actually care, what we get instead are more incentives to play pvp with no noticeable or proposed actions taken to reduce cheating. What we'll get is more pushing by Bungie to play pvp and this leads to more incentives for cheaters as well. P.s. I'm not saying Bungie should do away with incentives in pvp, but if they do keep adding incentives to play pvp in hopes of salvaging the crucible then they need to add security as well. Right now they've got basically nothing going in regards to dealing with cheaters and from what we've seen, they have no interest in doing anything either.

          • You guys can get VPNS, trust me, spending money isn’t ideal but most routers come with denial of service attack preventions in them, just look on the box of your router and see if it has one. You can also buy them online. I’m setting mine up because I am DONE with getting ddossed when I play .8s
