I hope Destiny 2 is a little more "open world"
I took this screenshot, and it has me thinking. Zelda has the "If you see it, you can go there." motto, I don't want D2 to be like that, I just want patrols to be more fulfilling than just doing bounties and public events. Bungie did an amazing job with the landscape and draw distances, it's a shame we don't get to fully explore them.
Destiny is a shared world shooter/MMO hybrid, whatever, but it's so limited. They dropped last gen, so there's more power to do more in the game, I just hope they put it to good use. The way D1 is ending is how I think D2 should begin, with more openness. I can't express that enough.
Even with all the nerfs, complaints, exclusive content, etc. Destiny at its core is a great game. Bungie is a talented developer and they nailed the mechanics and gunplay to a T. I hope they don't scrap what they've built and ruined the formula.
I don't care what platform people play on, we're all part of the Destiny community and as a community need to push Bungie to make D2 the best it can be. Destiny, as it is now, is because we as a community asked for it, and Bungie listened. They delivered albeit bad timing. I honestly think Age of Triumph is a great send off to Destiny 1.
I hope Bungie takes that and makes it the heart of Destiny 2, with an actual story of course. Some people won't agree with me and that's fine, we're all entitled to our own opinions.
EDIT: Surprisingly everybody agrees with this thread. I know Destiny 2 is practically finished, but a game like this would be so much more immersive. Thanks for the positive feedback, everyone.

If they make destiny even some what like skyrim or fallout I'll just take the disc out lube up the hole in the middle and start -blam!-ing it. What if we had it more like Neverwinter is laid out, you walk or fast travel everywhere and have specific spots to travel to other worlds, instead of orbit you have the social space where you can matchmake and shit.

2 RepliesI just hope there is more depth. A lot of destiny feels super casual and gets boring fast. There also needs to be areas of permanent "Enemies are moving against each other" wars. Those are always fun but it's sucks waiting for them. Sometimes I just want to shoot a bunch of stuff for hours. I hate waiting 30 min for 5 min of fun.

This is not a bad thing but, it does mean that you missed the initial promise and I guess what turned out to be one of the first lies that Bungie told about Destiny. It was 100% supposed to be exactly that i.e. an "if you see it you can go there" open world environment on patrols. Don't take my word for it though just google and watch the original Alpha footage and reveal walkthroughs by Bungie themselves no less. No-one who lived through that is ready to believe for a second anything Bungie say about what D2 will be. Some will fall for the hype or be drawn in by the frankly toxic streaming community that's grown up around D1 and Trials and who will undoubtedly be the first invited to any D2 gameplay events. The rest of us will play the wait and see game. Buying D2 day one, no matter what "pre-order bonus' are promised is a no no for me. Also, although I alpha'ed on PS4 and Beta'ed on there too. I played properly on XBox one and already Bungie are starting to create PS4 exclusive bonus content with Sony. This means that, unless the XBox price is lower as a result. I'm actually going to wait until D2 hits a bargain bucket so I don't feel ripped off. Heck XBox still doesn't have Jade Rabbit! Or all the strikes!

Edited by mjassassin: 3/28/2017 4:54:09 PMD2 has truly only one option to expand and build on and that is to go very in depth into the MMO aspect of the franchise. multiple towns , markets, cities with multiple NPC's with quests make them interactive and with personality way more customization. D1 over the last 3 years laid the foundation now its time to show what the can do and build these living striving planets for years to come. Colonize these planets now make tthem feel alive. D1 didnt make the planets feel alive they seemed dull and boring.

1 ReplyHonestly as long as it's filled with things to do. Too many patrol areas in destiny are vacant. Or have very little going on. Running a full circle on earth actually takes a while. But there are no worth while encounters. So I'm hoping for a full world rather than a bigger space like the ones we have.

I hope so too. Sometimes I literally get lost in the backdrops in PvE and even PvP wishing "Man I wish I could go to that skyscraper/mountain/volcano/crevasse/forest and explore it. There's gotta be stuff to be found or evil stuff to kill down/up/over there." Not to say that I expect the patrol maps to be 100x the size they are now but I'd like to see the size multiply at least 3-5 times if that's possible without making my One blow up trying to load it all. Just big enough that I don't have to look in the distance and almost everything there is impossible to get to. Although I love that sense of mystery and it's one of the things that keeps me playing, sometimes it just makes me sad that I can't venture out to some of those places.

I just hope they can deliver a product that hasn't been chopped up and gutted just before launch like what happened with D1. Seriously, the story was so -blam!-ing weak and poorly delivered, yet the lore was great but you decided people had to discover it outside the game on a separate website. So stupid. I did like Destiny but I really hope D2 doesn't have the teething issues Destiny had.

Like, just give the option for proximity voice chat or a text chat and bring in more players. I remember when the hype was building for Destiny and stuff like public events and interacting with players that you cross paths with was the talk of the town. Destiny 2 is supposed to be a reboot of Destiny but bigger I'm assuming that means more open world with a big social space for dozens of guardians.

It would be nice to see more of an open world, one that you can actually used your ship. I don't fell this company will go as far as allowing you to fly around in your ships. Although, they have the means to make them more useful then what they are now. From my experience in this game patrol alone can be improved in a lot of area's. D1 has always had it's limits and with D2 them limits can be expanded but that depends on the company.

I'm fine with destinys current graphics going into destiny 2 as long as there is a true open world on each planet in return. If not...it better be 60fps

Did someone say Breath of the Wild? 😉 150 hours in BoTW but update coming tomorrow. Time for me to return and have my final send off to Destiny. Also, I find it troubling that people keep speculating that D2 will have an identical launch to D1. We can just ignore TTK & RoI. Those never happened.
