Wth is wrong with exotic class items?

They give you 10% bonus to the faction as opposed to 10% more for Vanguard or Crucible points. However since every point you gain from doing w/e you get 1/2 the points you get on Vanguard or Crucible which effectively cuts that 10% down to pretty much 5%. With that said the only actual time you'd wanna use these is if you were turning in faction stuff for points which overall is a terrible way to represent your faction. The gear should either be 10% to all 3 Vanguard, Crucible, and the faction you're in or it should give a 20% increase to make up for 1/2 gain for doing stuff to get points for the faction. While one can argue that it'll make it easier to turn in items and get 20% more points instead of 10% as you do get full points for turning in stuff, still... It's an EXOTIC piece that took you 25 faction levels to get. It should never be more negative to wear it compared to the Vanguard/Crucible class items. If anything it should be slightly more useful/convenient than the normal class items. Yes I'm aware some people wears them because they like the look better but a majority of us don't wear it(other than when turning in faction items) because it hinders your point gain compared to the other class items. *Edit* - Just to avoid future comments regarding the math since someone brought it up with no other contribution to the thread whether be ideas or their opinion on the matter.
I'm aware that's it's technically not 5% gain as opposed to 10%(it does give 10% rounded down though, not up). However point wise, we are effectively getting nearly half less than we do normally with other non-exotic class items. Notice I said "pretty much" instead of just pointing out the exact math?
And
For example you could do a vanguard bounty that gives you 50(vanguard)+25(faction) and with a vanguard class items totals up to 50+5+25 = 80. Now if you wear the exotic class item(which the points are rounded down) you'll be getting 50+25+2 = 77 rep points. You effectively lost 3 points just for wearing the Exotic class item. This pretty much means that the class item hinders you than actually help you which should most definitely not be the case since it's an exotic class item.
*Edit* - Added idea from a poster.
Or just switch the Vanguard/Crucible points with the Faction points. You earn Double Faction points, but half of the regular points. (The %10 bonus may also apply.)
• What I don't understand is that you have to grind like hell to get them and then they reward you by giving you more rep. Surely, you should get them from a different way so to help you get your rank up.

  • You receive half the amount of faction rep as you do Vanguard/Crucible rep, but that's not a multiplier. You get 10% more faction rep so that means your faction rep increases by 10%, not 5%. If you do a 50 rep bounty then you get 25 faction rep. Then it applies the 10% bonus and gives you 27 faction rep, not 26 faction rep which would be 5%. If you go to your faction and drop some weapon parts off you get 55 rep, not 52 rep. The class items from factions are to increase the reputation to that faction. If you want to increase Vanguard reputation wear a different class item. I mean i'm not complaining that wearing my Iron Banner class items makes me get less Vanguard reputation am I.

          • Better yet, what if the Exotic Faction Items just made the Faction claim 100% of the Rep instead of 50%? Remove the Vanguard or Crucible Rep to balance. Want to earn both at the same time? Take it off.

            • I hate how I have to pledge allegiance to a faction in order to wear an exotic class item. I really like the dead orbit cloak but I like the armor for new monarchy. The only exotic class item I even wear on my hunter is the exotic Nightstalker cloak. It's perks may be a bit useless now but it is just to sexy to not wear

              • A simple fix is to allow them to boost both vanguard/crucible and the faction. That would make it worthy of having the exotic status. As it stands, I'll do the quests for them, but I will not wear them. Vanguard and Crucible give the better packages.

              • Got the quest for my first faction exotic yesterday night, played 10 strikes and 9 crucible matches(only won 3 btw) It's not a "grind" or "difficult" I was rocking my faction set before the quest and I'm just doing things I should be doing anyway. In literally 2 hours I'm 60 percent done.
im super scrubshrub and if I can do it so easy anyone can
#scrubshrub

              • My issue with the exotic class item is it gives you rep for that faction only and you habe to be allied with that faction to equip. I already leveled it up 25 times and got everything that faction has to offer why keep leveling it? If anything having it equipped should let you into a higher drop rate for that faction or a different swt of rewards only obtainable by having it equipped.

                  • Giving this a bump. With the current hassle towards getting them and being confined to the same alignment they definitely deserve a modest buff for all of the work that was put into grinding for them. Some may argue that this isn't a big deal because they can easily put in the hours and faction rep, but a lot of players don't play as often, let alone daily. Besides, the majority of TTK's cloaks just look outright horrendous while the exotic ones actually look decent. Must it be such a conundrum to have both aesthetics and practicality with class items?

I've said all along that faction ships should be an alternative way to earn bonus points toward ranking up. You can't go anywhere in the game without the space travel cut scene; hell, even in PvP, strikes, raids, etc. your fireteam(s) can see your ship. Let me wear whatever cloak, bond or mark I want; stop the 'switcheroo' when turning in bounties. It's a waste of time.
Besides, Dead Zone Revolution is the only cloak I need on my Hunter
They're hardly worth calling an exotic really, plus the DO and NM spawn animations suck. If you're wearing a full set of faction armour and a faction weapon with the class item equipped then the lvl boost should be pretty big !

I eill admit, it would be nice if they did more than just the minimal boost that theu are. The hard work it takes to get them and all. Also by rank 25 you really have most of what you need from the faction, unless you are hunting a god roll.

                      • I wear the DO mark because it looks nice with my armor. Also it's a choice of a vanguard/crucible/faction based on what class item you wear. It makes their respective factions go up faster not all of them. Makes it more of a grind regard less if you lose 3 overall faction rep points. With that small of a loss I don't care what mark I wear as long as it's light is high and it has the right stat rolls and looks cool I could give a shit if it gave me bonus Crota's bane rep. Wear what you want. Who cares about minimal loss for style choice.
